here's my r100r from my recent 2-up trip through wyoming and colorado from PA. 5300 miles in 2 weeks.

not only all our camping gear, but also a 6 pack of beer, bag of ice, food for dinner, and stuff for smores at the campfire! I also never leave home without a flyrod, which is in the black abs tube under the blue bag.
here's what camp usually looked like

sometimes we didn't use the tarp.

Theft?

Ok this slightly off topic ... but what theft precautions do y'all take for luggage not locked up in hard cases?

I get a bit anxious when I head into a restaurant or take a side-hike?

Your front wheel is up with the center-stand. Is that normal for that model bike or is it a function of those rear boxes and weight?

None. And the luggage is almost never locked, my helmet will be sitting on the GPS, and the keys to the bike will probably be in the ignition.

I haven't had any issues with theft going back 50 years when I was just a young passenger on my dad's bike. Unless you count the bear trying to get whatever it was that smelled good out of a side case.

That's not to say there aren't places where I wouldn't do that. Mostly I don't stop in such places.

Actually hated the tank bag by the time the trip was over. I acquired at a parts sale at the local dealer for $80, retails for $300-ish. It's clearly cavernous, and could carry a poodle and a six-pack with room left over. I stored my camera gear in there during the trip (DSLR, filters, lens, GoPro, batteries, sunglasses, SPOT), all waterproof and tight, no leakage while riding through storms. But the danged thing would slip off when I least expected it, and it was a pain to detach-attach during fill-ups.

NOT recommended.

The pad sleeping bag and tent go in the drybag for a backrest.
Bungies and tire fixit crap in the faring bag
Clothes and shower kit in the delux milk crate (pelican case)
Poles in the JATO wheelie rocket tube
The rest in the $28 Uber bad ass ghetto-tech boxes

The setup

the towel hooks are mainly to hang our helmets from when we stop and also when we pack up at campsites, there aren't always picnic tables around to set them on and they get in the way if we hang them on the mirrors.

the front wheel is usually up with the bags on the bike. without the bags, the rear wheel will be in the air. the bags don't have to be loaded, doesn't take much to tip the balance.

This is how we usually pack for long hauls. Wife's 650GS in the foreground, my 800GS behind. Using two 20L E-Vent bags, one on each Jesse lid. Strapped with Rok's.

Mine's the big tunnel tent in the foreground, right:

Packs down into this:

Usually packs away smaller, but had to pack in a hurry as the sky was turning very dark indeed and it started hammering down just as I'd stuffed my tent in its bag. So the tarp is on top of the pannier instead of in it.

All camping stuff (tent, tarp, airbed, sleeping bag, trangia / cooking gear etc) goes in the bins so it can be left locked on the bike if I duck into a hotel (or overnight ferry) instead. The white roll holds clothes and other essentials. Camp chair goes on the right pannier as it doesn't fit inside. Tankbag carries maps and camera and other odds'n'ends.

Could probably get my clothes & stuff in the panniers too if I brought the down bag instead of the synthetic one, but then I wouldn't have room left for groceries.

Tank bag - usually take it with me OR just leave it on the bike depending on what crap I have in there. If it's packed full of important stuff and I have room in the panniers I relocate the items to the locking panniers. If I have too much crap then I just put the backpack straps on it and carry it around. (Wolfman Rainer w/ backpack straps) If there isn't anything important in there then it just stays on the bike.

For the tail bag I usually have the Watershed Colorado or Yukon duffel and keep it in a pacsafe 120l mesh wire locked to my pannier brackets. It's not 100% secure but for regular folks just passing by it's probably more hassle than it's worth to cut the mesh without being caught.

Got some new pics, and since the old ones are now broken links, I'm reposting those.

No offence, but that's some of the most F-uped packing I've even seen. Do what ya gotta do I guess.
Is that a water gun in the first pic?
