We packed for a 3 and a half week trip and only went for 2 so definitely over packed. I'd still bring the same setup as last time, it just wouldn't need to be as heavy...Both dry bags are 30L, the panniers are Pelican Storm im2600s which are 36L each.

I was out for two weeks on this ride, Death Valley, Baja, Moab and then up to Sturgis for a coffee mug before returning home. I carry the same gear whether it's an overnight or multiday trip.

My mermites pannier rig on the Honda Nighthawk 750. Made the mounting rack from a Givi tubular rack for a V-Strom.

Panniers contain sleeping bag, cook kit, stove, coffee press, food, air mattress, clothing. Tent, Kermit chair, tarp w/ poles on seat. Small tail bag has tools, tire plug kit, pump, misc stuff. Tank bag has camera, gloves, tripod, glasses..

NICE Setup!!
How do you hold the panniers to the bike? What kind of mounting hardware did you use?

Mermites are US military surplus food transport containers. Found all over the internet or some surplus stores. Usually under $100 each at Cali surplus stores. They are fairly light and strong!

Mermites

They are getting hard to find. Mine came from an on-line army surplus in Montana. I used the "pucks" from happy trails and then had to find longer knobs. Some folks make their own .

They work great. I made a mistake in having the hinges on the inside. Should be away from the bike.

Documented here. http://dalewarren.blogspot.com/2012/...rs-part-1.html

Hondo has a thread on adv documenting his mermite mod for his KLR.
