KLR Pegs
Here are some photos of the FleaBay KLR 650 pegs that I mounted on my XL600R:
We all have these tiny pegs: ![]() Now the bigger pegs for comparison: ![]() The KLR Pegs are too narrow ![]() So I made some steel spacers: ![]() Now they fit perfect: ![]() ![]() Now I have to just look at them in my garage because it is zero degrees outside!

While I am thinking about it...does anybody have the two linkage parts for the rear shock that they would be willing to sell? Mine has an annoying squeak that I can't seem to get rid of.
PM me Thanks, Eric

but if you are going to bother with changing linkages it might be worthwhile looking at a later model xr upgrade?

Gotta love it. I used some rubber washers for my spacers but may go with the steel spacers.

Suspension swap, No problemo
Well I don't know if I'm the first on here to do this swap or not, but it was too easy. My 83 xl now has an 85xr remote res shock and 99xr swingarm 18" wheel and disc. The only thing I need to get is 2 3/16 spacers for the lower shock mount, and cut the brake pedal brackets off the 99 and weld onto the 83. I use the linkages from the 83. It basically bolts right in. [IMG]

Here's a couple more
[IMG]
[/IMG][IMG] [/IMG]This is where I will be needing the spacers. I have some more pics showing the offset of the 99's shock and swingarm differences if any body is interested. |

what about...
That is awesome. Did you happen to have a spare xr laying around or was it a special search? Did you just give up the cush? OTT is the chain line good with the tire? Sorry for the assault. I like it.

When you have the linkages apart try scotch brite or 600-800 or higher sand paper on the bushings and bolts if they are gummed or scored up and then coat everthing with high temp synthetic grease upon re-install. I use amsoil

A friend bought the xr to put the engine in his XRL cause he blew his motor. The lack of suspension on thease bikes was the only reason I thought of selling, so I was looking on ebay for CR 500/250 parts but mounting points were way diff. Then looked at xrl stuff for ease of swap and the linkage and mounting points looked the same as xl. So asked my friend if he wanted to get rid of the roller and picked it up for $100. Just need the rear brake lever, but going to call him and see if it is laying around. As for the cush drive, I am on the lookout for an XR650/250L rear wheel. It should swap right on. The chain is same location. The swing arm bolts directly in and inside width is same. It's 2.5" longer though. But that and the wheel will give it the proper height when I put the forks on next.

Got the offset issue.
Was more concerned of the cush. I did not think they were that much longer, that is cool. Are you going to keep your triple for the key or eject it all for a switch?
I used to work in Concrete for the F. Circus. Miss that trip up to Diable Lake. Mowed down a lot of sticks up there. Did not mind the moss growing between my toes either. Good work. Thanks for the great photos. JLa |
