So... where is everyone hooking up that extra ground wire to the frame when they put in these infamous Ricky Stators?

Hi mpenalver,

The puller on my 83 is a 22 mm

Ricky Stator Ground

I hook the new ground to the gas tank bolt. It's slightly smaller, but it fits with just a little persuasion.

After taking mine out for a few times this year, just have to say I absolutely love this bike. After a few more jetting changes (leaned it out a bit) throttle response is super crisp and 2nd and 3rd gear wheelies are a lot of fun.

FMF exhaust is a bit on the loud side under throttle but comfortable during cruising and has a nice burble on overrun.

I've been looking around for a cruiser/street bike but I think I'm just going to skip that idea entirely and just put more miles on the xl600.

If it runs near as good as it looks, you got yourself one sweet ride there!

I love riding mine as well. We got in an DRZ400SM at my work and I've always liked them until I sat on it. The seat is far worse than the XL. It's like half as thick and half as wide. No way that's happening.

BTW: What FMF pipe is that? Is that for an XR600 or 650L?

ring gap

i took my cylinder and piston to a machine shop, asked him to hone it and measure the bore so i could order the right rings... he said its standard bore. so i ordered std rings

went to put the new rings in and checked the end gap and its aroung 1mm the service limit is 0.5mm

i put the old rings in and the end gap is tighter than the new ones, just noticed the old ring has "N25" and the new, wrong one says "N"

would this mean that the piston is 0.25mm over and bore too or is it just a larger ring to make up for a worn cylinder ???

PLEASE HELP

It was for an XR600 but needed to be cut up and lengthened to fit correctly.

Proper decomp adjustment...*

*yes, I did a search and came up with nada...

The bike is an '85.

Is the decompression lever properly adjusted when the shaft is just about to contact with the rocker at TDC? (the shaft that is attached to the mechanism at the right side of the head, it has a little cut away on the end which pushes the rocker/valve down) The book seemed fuzzy on this. Any help appreciated.

Thanks.

Looks nice. I can belive that work is involved. I have an 88-90 supertrapp and header setup I'm trying to fit to mine but needs the muffler mount relocated. I can't count how many time's I've heard people on forums say that any XR600 exhaust will bolt right on to a XL600. Not the case.

I just picked up a NOS Honda 0.5 mm over sized piston and rings for my third XR500R engine (1984). The rings are indeed stamped with N 50.

For what its worth.

Yes, "fits" is a subjective term and varies greatly between those who want something done right and those who are ok with "good enough"
