I am a recent owner of a NX 650, where can I find a tail / luggage rack for this bike? Also a pannier system ?

Try Ebay.de or Ebay.uk, for the Tail rack, they are a direct fit up to 95 or so, after that they changed the rack for the RD08 model.

smog removal

I was attempting to remove all of the smog plumbing from my '88 NX650. The bolts that hold the small pipe assembly to the ports on the front of the cylinder (directly behind the frame downtube) seem very reluctant to come out. So I've got everything else removed, but there's a pipe at the front of the engine that exits to the left side.

If I attempt to run the engine now, what happens? Will oil dump out? Does this act like a crankcase vent?

Has anyone else run into this and what was your end result?

I just removed mine yesterday!
The tubes you describe are for exhaust gases. They are difficult but not impossble to get to on our bikes. I removed the top motor mount bolt, that made it a little easier to get to them.
I wouldn't run the motor with out blocking them. I'm not sure what the concequences might be but I'm sure alowing outside cool air that close to exhaust valves would not be good.
To get the allen head bolts free you need a long 5mm allen wrench. I used an allen that is driven with a 1/4 " ratchet. Take your time, they ill come out. It goes without saying, DO NOT strip the Allen heads on these bolts. There will be an Ass Load of work if you do.

Gap in the airbox???
And in order to remove the 4 allen head screws, did you just use an allen head socket and a ratchet? Or was an air impact gun used? Thanks for all of the help guys!

@Wide Heidenau, a great tire for the money!

I don't use air gun so only with the normal tool ;)
Uhm on my smog there is a hose that suck fresh air out of my airbox to the smog system.
So when you got the hose of the airbox you got an empty hole

Grrrr, my choke nut broke off 2#$@#@#%!@#$

Need to order a new one and then my revived RFVC engine is for his first start!! YIIHA

If you bought the smog block off kit there should be a plug for that hole. If you leave it open you willbe sucking unfiltered air into the motor.

I have a NX650 seat for sale in the Flea Market BUT when I listed it I thought it was a XR650 seat, turns out that a previous owner recovered it and changed the seat core.

Since I can not change the title line it is posted as:" XR650 seat? "

I have asked the moderators to nuke it so I can re-list it correctly as a NX650 modified seat, it is taller and sits very firm like a XR650.

Thanks

I filled up my tank today with around 2.7 gallons. There were ~85 miles on the previous tank. I felt like this was pretty poor mileage, it was less than 40mpg. Is that fairly normal?

Depends on the type of riding you were doing during those 85 miles. If you were down in the lower gears all of the time (1st and 2nd) maybe it could be normal.
But, if that was not the case, I would say it is not normal. Mileage varies depending on type of riding, jetting, valve adjustment, spark plug condition, Air cleaner condition, tire pressure and on and on. That being said, I have gotten as good as 65 mpg and as poor as 50 mpg.
That being said, as I recall, awhile back you were looking at re-jetting. I'm assuming you are close to sea level, I would start with a main jet a bit leaner then what you are currently running.
