About you NX - do you have engine disassambled? :/ (to check this gear - the difference between old NX and post 91' NX gears as old NX gear is the same as in XR650L - part # are the same)?
Wow one tooth missing on the 2nnd gear and still working..?! Yeah you need to get that M3 gear.
The engine is not completely disassembled..yet..within a couple of weeks,I hope.
Yeah I'll try do some measurements when engine is disassembled.

So, I have an 88 NX650 here in the San Fransisco area that I am parting out. If anyone has parts they need let me know. Engine has 61,000 miles on it and ran strong before I pulled it out.

If you disassamble you engine in one week, and with help of pictures we check that M3 gear from that gearbox will fit my transmission, I'll buy it for normal price. (USPS international shipping will be required, though).

I should have done the last post better. When I get home I will post a list of parts in the "For Sale" section and link to it.

You"ll buy the engine or just the M3 gear? I want to keep the engine intact.

That is the exact reason I dont own a NX650 still.
Great bikes, mine Imodded to be my Mexico bike.
Took me all over the Copper Canyon and beyond.
I was looking into swapping out the swingarm, rear break, and rear wheel
with a disc system off a Honda XR400/650.
It can be done, but a real hassle for sure.
Good luck!

The hub itself got bellshaped,hm first time i've heard that..but I guess antyhing is possible.. XR600r/XR650L is not the same hub as NX650,and they don't have cush built in like NX/Transalp,so they do get a lot more stress on the transmission and countershaft, results in splittin engine cases and put in new one after a while.I don't know if Transalp will fit.
Let me know if you'd be interested in buying NX (rear) wheel set, preferable to sell as complete wheel set.
And a swingarm(with disc brake)if you'd like
