Interesting shot.
It's amazing to think that Glen Curtis road a bike 137 mph in 1907....20 mph FASTER then WW1 fighter planes were going 10 years later!

I'm not so sure Mitchamus-- I'm still betting on St Barts, pre airport reno's in 2004 see http://www.st-barths.com/editorials/..._repair04.html

We used to sit in a pub (sorry, cafe...it's a French Island) and watch planes lurch over that mountain and onto the runway, which ran downhill before it flattened out.
The webcam for the St Barts airport shows the view from the other angle, and you can see both the hill and the road at the top of it. That Cessna (F OIJO) is registered to Air Caribe... The scooters, convertibles, Just saying, is all.

On another "Can they really do that", the international airport on St Martin used to have (maybe still does- I havent been there for 7 years) Air France and KLM 747s use the entire runway-- their tail used to hang over the road at one end of the runway and cars drove underneath. The jet blast used to disturb water way out into the bay, and if you left a beach towel unattended, it was gone! I would guess that in post 9/11 times planes and spectators arent permitted to be in such close quarters.

Ok it's probably stretching the concept a bit, but how about a scooter created for an R/C model aircraft flight sim...

Taken today in Abbotsford BC Canada. It might be old, but it still looks mighty fast, even on display.
