Liquid Stitch is not holding the patches on for me. Apply then sat a 20lb dumbbell on them for 24 hours. Picked it up and the patches are already trying to come off. The material on the jacket (textile Fieldsheer) is holding the glue fine but the backing on the patches seems to be the one that won't. Tried the needle and thread yesterday and couldn't even get the needle to go through once, let alone up and down a few hundred times. Gonna try the hot glue approach next. Maybe even try sanding some of the PVC backing off the patches for better purchase, material to material. Gotta do something. Jacket is caked with glue in neat little circles now.

I did use another fabric glue before it and it would not stick. If you're sewing, you need to sew thru the border, not thru the PVC backing. There's no PVC around the border. Maybe when I run out of this batch, I'll get a felt backing for the next bunch..

you guys can't sew??
Quote:
Can't believe you guys have trouble stitching a patch? My only concern would be that it could allow some water to sip through. If you wax the needle and/or use waxed thread, that should (1) be easier to penetrate the fabric and (2) help waterproof. |
