I got one like that. Was riding to Crater Lake in Oregon. The locals told me there was one gas station on the way, and I already needed gas. Well, I passed it (there wasn't much to see anyway) and rode all the way to the park. Stopping at the entrance I waited a short time for someone to pass by and asked where the nearest gas station was. Well, it was 10 miles back! Damn. That's my "almost saw Crater Lake" story, but it gets worse. I rode back to the station, downhill, coasting... and upon arrival learned that they had no gas! Shit. Now I've been on reserve so long I'm afraid to even start the bike, but they tell me there's another station, which might have gas, down some long windy road. I had to try. I babied it the whole way and made it. That was luck or something.

Anyway the poor teenage girl was afraid to fill my bike, so she let me do it.

I have a 3.2 gallon tank.

My son and I went on a quick jaunt on DE Route 9 for his first ride after taking the MSF couse and getting his bike endorsement. Check out the ear-to-ear grin inside the helmet.
