how do i adjust the clutch, the easiest way? also, it seems like the foot shifter is bent in, would that affect the shift from 1st to 2nd?

I was thinking check the clutch cable free play but it didn't get typed . You might want to check that the shifter is not rubbing the case on shifting. There ain't a lot of room there. Ok the lever freeplay should be 2-3 mm ( 0.08-0.12 in) measured between the lever and the lever holder.

For the clutch, you want to leave just a few mm of freeplay in the lever. Use the barrel adjuster on the clutch lever perch to take up or induce slack. The adjuster is hidden under the black rubber boot. If its too tight, it won't allow the clutch to fully engage, causing excessive slip. If its way too loose, it won't fully disengage, causing hard shifting and wear on the clutch when its pulled in. Also, change your oil. Fresh oil makes the transmission feel much smoother. I use Rotella T6, full synthetic, 5W-40. As far as a bent shift lever, it could cause problems if it can't move freely. Use a long crescent wrench to bend it back into shape and ensure it doesn't hit the cases through its full range of motion.

colour?

Found this ad for a KLR for sale, but it sure looks like a Sherpa to me.

I just have not seen a colour scheme like that before. Can anyone confirm if this is a repaint or what? Usually the Super Sherpa labels are stuck all over it, and the grey is usually a lighter colour.

Apparently he bought it for his son to ride, but being 17 and never driven even a car before, he has no experience and the insurance was going to be too much, which is why he's getting rid of it. It's got 10,200 kms on it or about 6,000 mi.

It's a motorcycle coloured motorcycle! (a colour guaranteed to render even the biggest luxury car about as visible as a motorcycle)

Yes, it's a repaint.

From a single low resolution photo it looks a pretty good job actually, but camouflage road grey wouldn't be my first choice of colour.

Then again neither would pseudo military green with gold rims, but that's what I've got.

Are those aftermarket Excel rims or just repainted? $2450 seems a bit high, even for repaint and upgraded rims... wonder if spokes were upgraded also?
Needs back tire? probably needs chain and sprockets, too... priced too high if it needs so much stuff... I'd pass.

The ad is gone now. I'm guessing the seller picked "KLR" but meant to pick "KL" which is the designation for a Super Sherpa. Looks like a nice bike in the picture.

Well I went and took a look at it, it is a nice bike for the most part. It does need a back tire, chain looked good, no leaks that I could find. Started right up from a cold start, no smoke. Drove nice.

$2450 may seem a bit high, but it's the cheapest one I have seen up here in Ontario in a while, usually they are priced around $3,000 or more in the same condition and approx km's.

I am going to think about this one.

They do seem to hold their value around here. I got an 05 for $2800, and had to do tires and fork seals on it. I do quite like it and seem to ride it more than my other bikes. I'm taking it out of town this weekend for the first time. We'll see how she does.

Boddingtons............mmmmmmmmmm........I love how it sticks to the inside of the glass when you first pour it.Good stuff.

It's also crazy the difference in price still on American vs Canadian, we tend to be paying more for all vehicles up here, new or used.
But these Sherpa's sure do hold their value, you are right.

I got him down to $2,200 I am going to see it one more time and make sure everything checks out. I don't think he really knows what he has, he keeps calling it something different, a KL, a KLR, a KLE, oh ya, Sherpa..... It's starting to confuse me. He also said it had 5 gears, but I confirmed 6, and also told him that Sherpa's are 6 speeds.
I also asked him about the previous owner, and he mentioned he refinished/painted old cars, and he said he didn't really care for the paint job on the Sherpa, so he repainted it to something simple and different. Which explains the new paint on the bike.
Anyways, one more look and we shall see.

That Sherpa looks pretty good. Interesting color…gun metal grey? I like it. We’ve been through this before that prices can be very different region to region, particularly on a bike that doesn’t pop up for sale all that often. The pricing you’re discussing with the seller is in line with what it would probably go for down here in Florida. Good luck with your deal if you decide to go for it.

Bought it!

Well I picked it up yesterday! $2,200 Cdn. I consider it a Father's Day gift for me.

Had a buddy take a look at it too, and he said if I didn't get it, he would and sell it for $2,700 firm.

So it now sits in my garage, waiting for clean oil and a wash. I took it out for a small spin around the block, cause I couldn't resist, and I am very happy, and nervous at the same time.

Looking at it further, it does need a new tire, and a new mirror, as the arm on the left mirror just spins and spins. The back brake in my opinion needs to be looked at as well, perhaps just new pads, it doesn't grab enough if you ask me.
The rims are aftermarket, not sure which kind, didn't take a good look, but they are NOT a repaint.

Some touch up in the paint as well, nothing major. You can see that the original paint was the black and silver motif from 2005.

Other than that, it looks good. Just need to safety it, get my license again, and take the motorcycle handling course, and the adventures can begin.

Will get some pics up when I give her a good wash. :)

The top one is what I have , an 05, but I switched the headlight for a 5" round unit. I managed to put a couple of tankfuls through it on the weekend. It did far better than I expected. Surprisingly smooth at highway speeds, but there's not much left after about 95 - 100 km/hr. Hills require a downshift or two. On smaller secondary roads, it's close to brilliant.
Next step is to install a small windshield I've had lying around for a while, and maybe the small aluminum cases I used on my DL. Actually maybe just one, and I'll mount the rack for my spare 5 litre aux tank on the other side.
I'm going to take it to Ottawa this weekend.
