When I say nice rack, I do actually mean what's on the bike. It's quite a bit bigger than the one on mine.
Best colour ever!
It was only after I got mine home did I realize that the bike's colours precisely matched those of my Bell MX helmet. If that's not destiny, I don't know what is.

I did a quick search and didn't come up with much, but who has hard bags/panniers mounted on theirs?

Zim, that's the best way to buy a Sherpa!

If I had to give up all of my bikes but one, I'd keep the Super Sherpa! And I just dropped 10K on a '12 V-Strom 650 ADV in May!

Bogging down above idle

Hey All,

Just found this thread earlier today and love it! The Sherpa is my favorite bike!

I wanted to share a problem I had back in Feb 2012. After 2~3 months of not riding because of work/weather, I needed an escape and wanted to ride the Sherpa. Up in the woods, it started to bog down so badly I had to choke it and open throttle only slightly to get back home. Quite a few slow miles!

I though carb might be gummed up from sitting so ran Seafoam through and ran fine for 1 mile... Bogged again. Seafoam and Techron cocktail later, same thing. Carb out, bowl off, thus is what I found:

But wait, there's more:

The romantic couple must have crawled up the vent tube...

Now THAT'S carburetor junk! Top that!!!

Me too, and for me that includes a 99 Concours. I keep adding things to the Sherpa to make it more "Tour-able".

Nice bike!
Love the rack on the back too!

well it's official then, I do have an 05 as well, since that seems to be the year the black rims were an option, and by the looks of it, this is/was the original paint job on the bike I just picked up.

Too bad it's not possible to strip the paint off, though this scheme is growing on me.

'05s can even swim

And KLR owners aren't the only ones with inexpensive top-boxes!

I chased my Sherpa across the garage today.

It's probably a good idea to disconnect the negative cable from the battery before screwing with a bike's electronomic bits. Having it in neutral wouldn't hurt either.

Trying to hardwire a GPS cable in. The bike was resting on a jackstand at a leeetle less than perpendicular. Enough lean to provide pressure against the jackstand, but upright enough for me to park my butt on a milk crate and comfortably mess things up. I found that the voltage reducing box for the cable would fit nicely up under the headlight, and the power cord would just reach back to the starter relay. Sure!

Just don't let wires touch. Kzzzzzzt! It looked like a sparkler. Bike upright. In 1st gear. Starter motor stuck ON. No clutch safety switch. Yep. As the bike slowly whirred away from me, I said, "Oh no! Stop! Don't you... sonofabitch... get back here! Whoa whoa whoa!", as I'm swatting at the wires.

The only good part was that I had, moments before, replaced the stock mirrors with folding mirrors and separate mirror mounts. As the bike crashed to the right into a workbench, the mirror folded up nicely instead of breaking the mirror perch/brake reservoir clamp.

And that fried the cute little soldered-in fuse inside the GPS cable's box, rendering it out of service.

Kzzt.

That's too bad, but I have to admit, I laughed! Neutral is good!

Bath time

Ok, so here's a shot of the bike cleaned up a bit.....

Looking over the bike again, other than the rear, it needs a new mirror, brake light, and helmet lock. Brakes could be done as well. Will be taking it in for some new parts and a safety inspections soon.

Dang, that's a good looking bike. I'm really liking the black wheels, too.

Cute kid, makes me miss my granddaughter!
