And another tire question, wear?

What is the acceptable legal/safe wear on a rear
tire, got any images?
My tires are not bald but the center tread is getting
thin, the shoulders look fine except for the centerline
Inch. They have never been over filled.

I ran one as thin as pictured above and you could see light thru the center when I removed it. Very scary if you ask me... I don't want to risk a blow-out just to get another 100 miles out of a rear tire.

Safe to say, when the tread is completely gone in the center there is only a few mm of rubber left. This is way past the wear indicator bars on a street tire. I have gone from smooth rubber to cords showing as above in one ride.

Yes that's a bit under the limit.

I toss the rear tire when the traction on the dirt/gravel roads gets sketchy and the center is flat enough that they get wonky when leaning into a turn. Usually around 4000 miles or so. I do both because the front is trashed out too soon to run two rear and it just isn't worth it to screw around. I just do both.

I change my own tires, you'll be surprised at how thin the center can get. If you really needed to squeeze, ride a few hundred past the indicator. Or be safe and change at the indicator - after all, we're talking about safety here.

1.6mm across the tread is our legal limit.

3mm across the tread is police and tyre manufacturer recommended limit.
