Hey, I have the same issue.
I also putted some protection, but liquid mud still gets in and under the seat.
I need better sealing for this.

Good idea.....

After my last Spanish ride out(loose gravel and damp here and there) I checked underneath to find a small amount of mud....I will have to make the same to keep the mud off the seat release mechanism..

As an aside...I'd cut the remaining threaded bits off,on the bolts,to avoid corrosion thus enabling easier removal if need be.

Payser, I gave it a second thought, and I noticed, your mod is bigger, and longer, than mine, so I believe it might work good.
Please report how its hanging in the wet. If ok, I will make one also.
