The XLV750R Thread

[Two Plugs]

Some pics of the XLV750R Limited (MK2, 1985) which is in perfect (and original ) condition, except for the rear suspension which I have changed for a Technoflex unit (like on the restoration project). On the pics also our old Transalps, the '87 blue one is gone, the '87 white one is still there.

And although the weather protection of the XLV750R is rather crap, my biceps have increased a full inch tnx to the return to the Netherlands with strong headwind on the German motorway I really LOVE this ancient Honda big trail bike!

Best mod I have done: replacing the original airsuspended rear shock unit for a Technoflex unit (as on the model which I am working on in the postings above).

Will make some pictures tommorow before I clean the bike. Its a beauty. Even when its dirty!

How tall are you?
i remember sitting on an XLV 750, it was high even though I'm 6'3 with 37" inseam. Right here with you on top of it, it looks more like an XL 125, really.

Great photo's guys, and beautiful bikes too. These look like real adventure bikes to me...

I saw one of these parked at BMW Southbank (Melbourne, Aus) only 2 weeks ago behind the shop. It's looks like Two_plug's XLV750R.

I don't know if it's being worked on, or is a trade in for sale. I could find out if anyone is interested?

I'm hoping to complete the restoration of our 2nd XLV this winter, so we will ride out on both XLV's next year.

Untill that moment we have to use both our Varadero's and our MK1 Transalp...

God this brings back memories, two pulse coils, four coils and twin plugs. Oil in the frame, what a bike? Never wanted to sell mine in Honda’s racing colours but I promised a guy when I bought it, he would have first refusal and he hounded me for a couple of years. Would buy it back tomorrow if I knew where it was.

An XLV750 pulled into work a couple of weeks ago - if you've owned one that ''two XR400's'' sound pricks your ears up.It was a beat up piece of crap,and if the Maori guy on it wasn't so big I'd of pushed him off it and rode away.I tried not to be too enthusiastic about seeing one in my town....if he wants to sell it one day he has to realise no one would ever buy it,it's only worth a 100 bucks eh? But I was doing the old " I used to have one of these'' lines and my eyes were as big as XLV750 flywheels.He says there is another one in a town not far away,so I might try to find that one too.

But it was sad to see one in such condition after selling my mint one 4 years ago.

XLV750Rs are getting rarer. I used to know of eleven in our state (WA) but I now know of just six, including mine. Fella in Perth has just bought two... both front-ended! The standard brakes are not flash...!

Two Plugs: Can you please provide the specis for the Technoflex rear shock ... including price in Euros.

Just for interest sake: Do you have the typical (BMW shaftdrive) clunk when engaging first? (I do... and apparently it's common). Are you running synthetic oil?

I use half synthetic oil (Motul 10W40) on the engine and in the shaft drive just 'regular' shaft Oil. I don't have the 'clunk' sound. The price I had to pay for the Technoflex unit was apr 400 Euro. And since I got the impression that it would not be on stock that long, I bought two for both XLV's.

You could try to get in touch with the guys at www.jr-tuning.nl - they did the build in job. The company can be found at http://www.technoflex.nl/ and the e-mail is info @ technoflex.nl

Regretable the website isn't available in English (yet), but as most Dutch they will be able to mail / talk to you in English.

Province of Friesland? Well... thats our neigbouring province. And JR Tuning is not that far away) (apr. 30 km east of the City of Groningen. Give me a sign if you are visiting your friends!
