Markbvt, which road did you take? The one from East Haven/Hartwellville or the one from Gallup Mills?

Vermont's aerial mapping really sucks for some reason.

Yeah, I've researched that site and talked with a friend who's visited it. Unfortunately I don't think there's any point anymore in visiting the Bull supergun site -- apparently the property has been subdivided and sold off, some new construction has taken place on the Canadian side (where the primary complex was apparently located), and there's just nothing significant left to see. I wish I'd visited it ten years ago when there were still a few rusting remains lying around.

The latter. From what I've heard, the former is more difficult to access due to additional gates and more people.

Since you've given away the site's location, I feel obligated to warn anyone who decides to visit it that it's dangerous. Lots of twisted scraps of metal, it's unclear how structurally sound some of the buildings are, and the entire site is contaminated with asbestos. Furthermore, you're a LONG way from help up there if something goes wrong. So don't go alone.

Montana is full of old ghost towns and abandoned mills.

I know a few vignettes about Bull. He made a deal with Vermont & Canada for his own border crossing so they didn't have to drive so far to get from one of his sites to the other. Of course, no way can a state enter into any negotiations with a foreign country but somehow State Dept and Border Patrol paid no heed for several years despite his hauling what amounted to munitions [rockets and fuel] back and forth.

Later, Folks got upset at his activities there & had a hissyfit.

In the 1960's, Bull was well known to the Senators from Vermont; my knowledge come from a staffer in that era.

Most of my 'old place' photos are still locked in my lap top HD. If you roam about any building put up in the 50/60's be really carefull not stir up a bunch of dust. Mucho asbestos was used back then.

Great photos...thanks.

it is truly amazing how much abandoned stuff there is in the US. Riding the old hyways makes you painfully aware of this. Stuff discarded when the new interstates came through. Or, new 4 lanes skirting populated or curvy places.

I'm always amazed that no matter how remote, or hard-to-get-to an area is, some asshat bothers to schlep in a can of spray paint
