Most of today's riders would cry, just looking at that track.

You need to look closer at the tracks today. You are mistaking vastly improved suspension, better riders and higher speeds for a smoother track. it just ain't so. The riders today skim the tops of what they don't jump over. |

I'll concur with that except the part about better riders. The sport has changed but a 19 year old Bob Hanna would be a dominant rider today too. Look at Jeff Ward running up front in pro sumoto racing against much younger pros. The guys at the top of the sport are a special breed of athletes.
I also seen Jimmy Weinert run top 5 in local MX A class on a KLX300 about 15 years ago. He was SMOKING thru our whoops and beating 18 year old hot shots on a built play bike! These guys are just wired differently! |

When I said "better riders" I was referirng to the fact that todays riders have access to training and technique info that just wasn't available back then. Kids on minis are using the same technique as the top pros. They get faster and better because of it. The winners from any era would be winners in any other era. Attitude,-- confidence and desire-- count as much as anything. Some are born with it,some work to get it, some never get it. |

I think the riders today would freak out if the they had to ride natural terrain, they all expect the jumps to be spaced just right and everything to be predictable, motocross has lost an element that made it great, imo
this video has good music by the way, the Allman Brothers...it's all still pictures but great stuff And is that who I think it is at 4:07 giving the advrider salute???
