Cbolling- What seat do you have? Any experience with it 2-up?
Thanks for the pics. I've never been to your part of our country.

The seat is from Seat Concepts?

Only 2 up is with my 12 year old son. He likes it better than the stock.

Spring is in the air in the PNW, couldn't resist taking the Versys for an Easter spin to the coast. Besides, I've got gravel running plans for the V this summer and I wanted to test out my freshly mounted Acerbis skid plate.

I only want some flying gravel protection and wanted something inexpensive and easy to work with so figured I'd give the plastic skid plate a whirl.

Don't think direct contact withff the pipes is a good idea so I bolted up a light aluminium heat shield with a nut spacer. Works great, a couple hundred mile trip and things stayed nice and cool to the touch.

Simple U-bolt mount in the rear

A JDRocks inspired front mount, simple and solid

Held up great today, anxious to get out and bounce some more gravel off it!

you're smart to add a gravel guard, and the Acerbis is a good idea, should be light and durable, fine for gravel roads.

your front mount is similar to mine in that they both mount to the Motech guards, but there are important differences.

i found that there can be an interference issue with the tire hitting the gravel guard/cross bar during maximum fork compression in that mount/guard design. i don't think you can duplicate it a static demo without removing the fork springs and so on. i found out the hard way in a little dynamic testing back in 2009 and quickly changed the mount at the first opportunity to that shown in the photo. you need to look at this closely, and make your own determination.

i also found that directly connecting the left and right Motech guards with a straight cross bar can have unexpected consequences, also avoided with the current style mount.

good to have a radiator guard, but even better if mounted with a standoff in front of the core. it's surprising what can hit the radiator, and with a standoff, less chance of damage. keep the radiator core flushed out when riding gravel. if it hadn't been 30 degrees when that photo was taken, the temp warning light would have been on. i power washed the bike right after the photo. Watson Lake, YT, there was a blizzard 25 miles west that day.

Thanks for the suggestions JDrocks, I wondered about clearance issues, and I have bottomed out a couple of times so I'd better change things up.

I really appreciate the pic, I can see what you've done there much better than the other photo i remember from one of your ride threads.

Thanks again for the warning, not something I'd want to discover riding alone out in the boonies!

I picked up one that the dealer had in stock, it's the KTM 450sx pn 2250290001.

There are a bunch of different styles/models available, you might want to have a look and see which suits how you plan on mounting it up.
