It was, indeed, the memorable spoon ride back on Kyle's DR... all the way back to Boise.

I been riding the DRZ and it left me high and dry on the back side of a mountain. seems the battery decided it had enough. stalled out in a washout on an old logging road and no start. had like 9 volts showing damn near killed myself pushing, cussing, sweating and grunting get that thing out and up a hill so I could do a bump start....

I need to get a new battery before heading back up. Take care

Oh yea West Mountain still has a ton of snow.
The reason I installed a kicker on mine. Of course if the battery's flat enough that doesn't help either.

It was posted on the Stay On Trails blog (http://idahostayontrails.blogspot.com). The full post has links to other information, such as this which pertains to my own ride plans:

Visitors are reminded that there is a detour via PFI Road #1194, around Trapper Creek Grade, Road 1190, to Red Mail Box (open to White Water). Water levels at trail fords are higher than usual for this time of year.

Landslides and washouts have closed Indian Hill Road #290, Falls Point Road #443 and O'Hara/Hamby Road #65, from mile markers 6.27 to 12.65. Coolwater Road #317 and Fog Mountain Road #319 are open for the first seven miles. Fog Mountain Road is very rough and road is badly eroded in a couple of places.

Further south, on the Salmon River Ranger District, Grangeville-Salmon Road, Road 221, is partially open from Grangeville to two miles past Rocky Bluff Campground. Free Use Road 243 is open to just past Twin Cabins Road 642; the road is closed one mile from Four Corners. Road 441, Nut Basin Road, is open about nine miles, to the junction with Road #2038.

Starting? I'm borrowing snowboarding gear and going riding on Monday with friends. Seriously. Haven't done that since the snows of 2003 here in Colorado!

That's so depressing (for me, know you!).

Where are you going?

Here, I'm trying to plot a 1000 mile route without getting over 8k, and you're the opposite.

Thanks Sam, but I will be working graveyard the whole weekend. May hook up with Chapton since he is the area for a week or so. I am very jealous of your residence! Take a ride for me.

My first 500 mile day

I grabbed 5 challenge sites yesterday 7/3 and 500 miles later OUCH!!! I don't think I would like to do that every day. I had 2 flats, helped a family back into their car that was locked and running with a little baby sleeping in it at Balance Rock, Interrupted a picnic in the middle of the road going into Doyle's place.

The little boy is part of the family I helped

Good times
