Do you have the tools to do so? Pump, tire iron, etc?

I have a compressor but don't have a tire iron i can go get one though is there anything else I need besides the right sized socket? maybe a new tube?

If your goal is to be able to do this trail-side (as in, you got a flat, on the trail, and you need to repair it), then what you need is: 3 Motion Pro tire irons, a tube, a large crescent wrench, a 12 & 13 mm box end and a pump. That's what I carry for my rear tire tube changes.

If you're just looking to watch someone do it, I can just ride my XR over and show you what I carry and how I do it with the tools I carry on the bike.

Soapy water or baby power makes things go much easier. Most of us carry baby power on the trail for the changes because it helps get the tire on and off, helps set the bead and helps the tube stay cooler in the tire (due to less friction).

I don't change out my tubes, because I change tires like I change underwear. However, if it's been a long time since the tube has been changed, then you can get a new one, and keep the old one as a spare if you like.

1) FS 246 (Burdorf hotsprings to Riggins) - and is that do-able on V-strom?

2) Country Rd 250 (Riverbend, MT to Orofino)

246 was still snowed in as of last weekend, but I'd expect to be open very soon. Very do-able on a V-Strom. French Creek Rd is a hoot, it's like the Swiss Alps of the dirt world.

Burgdorf has nice hotsprings, and a campground not too far from them. They're private, and are only open certain hours and certain days. They used to have cabins for rent... don't know if they still do or not. Stayed in the FS campground down the road a couple years ago ~ tremendous amount of mosquitos... so take your Deet.

Don't know the other one... never been on it.

I noticed you're running along hwy 12.

Have you considered running the Lolo?

Not sure how much time you have, but it's an outstanding ride along FS500. One of the more attractive 'touristy' routes in the state. Phil took his Strom on it a couple years ago ~ a little bumpy for the short suspension, but certainly do-able.

County Road 250 is an awesome spot. One of my favorites. I grew up in the area and we spent many days on the North Fork of the Clearwater. One other option if you have time and gas is to continue on 247 where it meets 250. Its good gravel and then turns to pavement, but a great place to ride along the river. Once you cross the bridge at Aquarius you follow Beaver Creek almost all of the way to the old town of Headquarters. Its all paved from the bridge to Headquarters and a really pretty area. Good luck and enjoy your ride. I need to do that ride sometime.

FYI-I rode my F650 over Dollarhide on the 4th.It was in great shape.I think the first ones over went on saturday,the 2nd.
Yesterday-the 10th-3 of us on 650's were the first over Antelope pass out of Copper Basin.We stomped out a path thru the snow,and manhandled the bikes thru.
The flowers are out and the ride was EPIC.

ok i will get a new tube today and try to track down the tire irons i have everything else.i would love to see how you do it with your xr like how you carry it all and what you need to do this in the field. i do allot of owyhee riding and would hate to get stuck out there.i am free all day today tuesday i am free after 2 wed after 7 thuers after 5 fri after 2 i live off of lake lowell in between midland and 12th my number is 9four1two4nine8

Phil and I wanted to go over Antelope on Friday, but I didn't think we'd get through, and I had no intentions of doubling back, so we skipped it.

I'd like to hit it in August though, as I've never been before.
