It's very tempting, but I better go ride my dirt bike tomorrow (CRF450X), I think it's glaring at me. I've put 1000 miles on the DR650 already this year. I'll let it rest this weekend and give er hell next weekend on the camping trip. Have a good trip. Pictures!!!

Well... not takers on the overnight... so change of plan...

I'm going to scout-out a future group ride for the Beef Trail . We'll leave tomorrow morning, and be back tomorrow afternoon/evening. If you're not comfortalbe riding into the canyon, you can run a parallel track along the canyon ridge. Because this is a scout-ride... know that we'll often back track, get lost, and wander through open terrain at time.

If you're intersted, shoot me a PM.

Rekluse is amazing. I recorded a video coming back out of the canyon, and show what it's capable of. Once I get showered off, I'll have to upload it.

Sam, Heath, Todd, Ed, and I did the Beef Trail in Nov 06. Uphill from the river. Heath, Ed, and I fell down (I punched out my rear view mirror on impact) Todd (the man that he is) made it up without any help. The rest of us needed a push and some steadying. It's a great ride and a great area, just make sure you've got some low gearing (or a Rekluse?!?)

Always looking for adventure.

Here are the pics from today.

Jared went with me.

My goal for the day was two-fold. First and foremost, was to test out my new gear ~ the 685cc and the newly aquired Relkluse clutch from HT. I'm going on a weekend ride next weekend, so I loaded the KLR up as if I were overnight camping, in order to ensure I'd gotten everything back on the bike correctly and reliably. The second goal was to find a moderate and reliable entry and exit into the Beef Trail area, in order to host a Motoidaho.com ride this spring. So with that in mind, we set out.

The entry into the area was much more relaxed than the last one (which I think was private property). It was a good double track trail, which I'm quite sure was all public land.

I took lots of pics of the trail, so that when I host a ride later... there'll be plenty of pics so the riders know what they're getting into.

Jared on his '08 KLR.

We got off the main trails, and started to head to the canyon.

My fully loaded tank.

Trail?! We don't need to stinkin' trail?!

The closer you get to the rim, the more challenging the trail gets.

Entering into the canyon is the toughest part of the ride for Jared (because we came out a different way).

You can see the trail... far below...

Jared did exceptionally well... dispite a couple of oh-@#$% moments.

Now remember... the camera has a tendency to flatten-out images... so this is really quite steep.

The steep isn't an issue, so much as the softball and basketball sized loose rockes that cover the trail.

I love this shot, because I can see the oh-lord-what-have-I-gotten-myself-into-look in Jared's eyes... even without the zoom... in my mirror.

This is another area where the Rekluse was nice... because you can 'do your thing', and never worry about locking up the back brake and killing the engine by mistake. (The less you have to think about on this type of terrain... the better off you are).

He made it through all the difficult stuff... to dump it in the sand.

I won't lie ~ getting a fully loaded KLR through that is a workout.

We took of east down the Beef Trail .

It's a very pretty trail, and if quite fun to ride.

Swan Falls dam.

This was the end of the trail, past Swan Falls dam.

We found the exit we were looking for, which was a piece of cake to get out of.

Jaren and I parted ways near the top of the exit.

I went back to the original entrance, so I could go back down it... and test the Rekluse coming back up with this heavy pig.

The roads getting back were really quite smooth-going.

I'll have to post the video of the canyon tomorrow ~ it's taking forever to upload... so that's it for tonight.

Great ride and photos....

Looks great, Ryan. You captured how steep and rugged the Beef Trail really is.

To say that the ride was a little rough would be an understatement... so if you get motion sickness, you better have a barf bag handy:

Ryan, great pictures!

I went out to the MotoIdaho.com calendar - http://www.motoidaho.com/pub/calendar.aspx - but wasn't sure which ride you're referring too, would love to hear more about the MotoIdaho ride this spring.

Ya, I haven't scheduled it yet. I'll get to that in the next couple of days, now that I've got a route I like.

So did you camp out or what? With all that gear on your bike it looks like you did? I wasn't to far away as well, but my view looked like this....

And no, I'm not a Captain...borrowed vehicle.

Didn't camp. I was making sure all my gear was 'good to go' for next weekend's camping trip. Having completly torn apart the bike over the winter... I just wanted to make sure everything was put back together correctly and that the locktite was going to keep all the bolts in.

Come on Ryan there was more than a couple "oh my @#$%&!" in there, but all in all it was a great ride. But you had to go and show the world my sand dump.... or was it.....it wasn't really a dump it was more of a throw down, like spiking the ball in the end zone after a great victory ....yeah thats it, it was a great big spike. ...i thought i got the bike up before you could take any pics. oh well i'll have to be faster next time.

Ya, you gotta be pretty quick to get the bike up before I can get a pic.
