Just about broken in, huh?
Congratulations. THAT is a beautiful thing! I don't recall what the markers are for the patches ... or if BMW still gives them. Any idea?? |

This should put some ease into all the people plagued by worries that their Beemer will self destruct prematurely due to FD failures, warped rotors, main seal leaks, loose bolts, electrical malfunctions, and so on...
I salute you and your magnificent bike. 400K ..who could ask for more? |

Kewl,
You got the rpm's up to 1300... now start letting the clutch out slowly and gradually give it throttle and away you go. In no time you'll have half a million miles on that beast. Congrats on 400K

Stats
the motor, is as it came from the factory, I have had to replace head gaskets, and back in Feb on a trip to Panama I had a plastic chain guide brake so I've replace then all. The valves, springs, seals, bearing etc. are original to the motor.
The trans I did replace all the bearings some time ago I'm thinking around the 200k mark. The clutch was replaced at that time since I was "there" so I'm one my second clutch. Still have the original fuel pump. Two final drive bears, the last one when out around 300k miles. Pivot bearings at the final drive go bad around 40 or 50 miles. Hall sensors about every two or three years. I still have the original brake rotors but they will have to be replaced soon as they are getting thin. I lost count of tire years ago. Not much much has gone bad on this bike, I'm hope it takes me to South America sometime next year.... Hank |

Oil Stats
I've been using Mobil 1 15W50 since it had 15k and for the trans/final drive I've been using Redline 80w140. When I removed the heads to replace the chain guides I was amazed at how clean the motor was inside. It looked as if it was brand new. I've been changing the motor oil at 5k mile cycles and the final drive/ trans at 10k. I adjust the valves or at least check them around 10k miles. I find that they are hardly ever off....
