It comes with good up-to-date NavTeq maps for the US and Canada
If you want topo then you will need to get Mapcreate 7.0 and you must buy it with the SD card reader writer that they sell or it will not work in a GPS
you can get it for about $100 most places that sell it.
Gps babel is freeware just Google it
Enjoy

XOG Locked Up

Well, just like one of the previous posters mentioned...right after the latest software download, my XOG locked up....it did a funny white screen and that was it. No response, D.O.A. -

This of course really hacks me off, because the unit I had got AWESOME battery life, and I could get 3-4 hours of battery life on every charge...which may not be the case on the next unit.

So, after an hour on hold to talk to Lowrance, the guy says...nope it is my fault as I did not format the SD card....I said nope, I did, then he says...well we have NEVER had a problem like you describe and I said, well I have heard of several cases just from googling...then he says, we ll your unit is probably out of warranty and I said...nope, it's in warranty my friend ok whats the serial number....ok, yes sir it is well under warranty...here is a claim number and send it in.

Well it has been two weeks now, and I have not heard peep...and I guess there is no way to track the status of the claim as that link is down.

Hope I get a new or refurb unit soon, as riding and fishing weather is fast approaching. So nice to quickly pop it from RAM mount in the boat, to the bike...and the lake maps work nice on the unit.

We will see how Lowrance fares....

By the way, anyone ever listen to MP3 files with it? Any good?

Cheers

I sent my XOG in because of very short short battery life on December 19. I received another one , apparently a new one, on January 23.

The new one has version 1.8 software, which according to the Lowrance moderator at gpspassion.com means it probably has an LCD screen from a new vendor.

My perception is that the new screen is a little bit dimmer than the old one, but I can't be certain about that.

I do use it to listen MP3s on a regular basis. It works fairly well for that, at least until the battery is about to fail when it starts to distort the music a bit. It outputs enough power to be heard through earphone at 70mph with my very noisy HJC Symax helmet.

MP3 player

I use my MP3 player all the time. It works great. My wife has a new Poctiac G6 and the stereo has an Aux. jack. Plug the XOG into it with a mail to mail cable and you get the instruction and MP3's through the car stereo. I do the same on my bike with ear bud's.

Thanks for the input guys. I guess I will just hurry up and wait.....

Good to know the MP3 plays fairly well though as I can prolly ditch the ipod now.

Thanks again,

Warren

I had a bad screen issue with my XOG a few months back and XOG replaced it without issues (all on-line). They were short on feedback in the process, but it did arrive 2-3 weeks later in plain wrap. No way to know if it was new or refurb though FWIW it has 1.8.0 software and seems like a short batery life ...

Wow, I could have wrote this post above. Except, that mine stopped locking signals one day.

Several things I've come to realize...The map on 1.8 is great, the mp3 player terrific, love the size of this unit, and the battery sucks beyond belief. Forgive if already covered, but is this thing toast when the battery gasps its final small breath? It won't lock at all when the battery is weak even when wired -Dale

I have owned 3 units and still have 2. The first one, out of nowhere 500 miles into a ride, decided to stop receiving sat signals. It was usless for about three weeks then it decided to work again. I sent it back and a replacement was in the mail in no time. When it went out it was about 85F in direct sun with no wind flow. I now put a glove or my riding jacket over it when stopped with no air flow.

Their turn around on repairs seems reasonable. Hopefully I won't have to go down that road again, but the battery on my new one is far worse than the unit I sent in for repairs.

Yes the battery SUCKS on the XOG, but I always have it plugged in so it is not an issue for me,
I will be getting Lowrance's new handheld when it comes out, it looks like someone finally got it right, and it was not GARMIN, way to go LOWRANCE!

Rwamf, are you going to try and run this unit on your bike?

Absolutely, It looks like the Perfect DualSport GPS, Handles "gpx" files, mega storage, Touchscreen and Buttons, Full high resolution Topo w/shaded relief, Full NavTeq street maps w/ Auto routing, Waterproof, and if it still has track handling capabilities like my past Lowrance's it will be King.( ability to not only save tracks to the card but also load from the card)
Looking forward to it.
