I understand the newer equipment is more efficient and everything, but nothing made sounds like the military jets from that era. Nothing.

F4's, F101 Voodoos, F104 Starfighters, English Electric Lightnings etc etc.

Oh, man, the noise!

The Toronto airshow on Lake Ontario in '75 opened with five Canadian Forces CF-104's streaking past unanounced maybe five hundred feet above the lake at supersonic speed. There was a flash and blurr of unimaginable motion and then a wall of shrieking, deafening, dopler effected sound. Half the crowd was screaming in shock and abject terror. Wildest airshow opener I've ever witnessed. Surprised they got away with it, even back then.

I just barely remember hearing the F4s when I was a little kid in Japan; dad was stationed at Misawa. I had a line mounted F4 that would fly around and around the room. I'd watch it for what seemed like hours, imagining dogfights and bombing runs.

I'd pay almost anything to fly in one; it's still my all time favorite fighter.
