I don't know if this is ghoulish or not, but here's a site with military plane crashes.

There's one (10th one down) of a Canadian jet on takeoff that takes a bird strike and loses power. The pilot in command is amazingly calm (his co-pilot sounds a lot more stressed.) They eventually eject.

I missed that.

There is also an AOA gauge on the upper left of the instrument panel and a repeater for the indexers (the lighted chevrons and circle described in the account) on the nose gear. It sounds like those were operating correctly.

The site you linked had some interesting videos. The C-130 that loses a wing on touchdown was taught in Safety School. It turned out to be a case of wind shear. There's a windsock in the original 8mm video that swings 180 degrees just before the Herc lands.

I was driving onto the base at Sewart, in Nashville (in '69, before they closed the base, now a Japanese auto plant) and saw a C-130 on an "unusual" steep approach. Shortly, I heard the sirens.

They hit real hard, and broke the plane across the top above the paratroop doors. This pulls the liferaft handles (they are built into the top of the wing and to my knowledge have never been used in the 60 year history of the make). So the plane is skidding to a stop, the tail dragging on the runway, dragging two inflated life rafts, like some obscene wedding trellis. The instructor pilot lost his IP rating, and I assume the student failed whatever ride he was on.

You might be right.

I was going to say Norseman until I saw the USAF insignia. Don't think the USAF ever flew Norsemen?

He might, but that's not what it was labeled as.

This might be the militarized version.

An NH-1, a GH-1, or a UC-70 Nightingale, depending on which service operated it? It's still a Howard.
