Almost every Naval Air Station I have been to has a few of these parked somewhere on the runway. I asked about them and was told that they are mainly used for scouting out the bombing areas to make sure they are all clear before they send the jets out to play.

Yeah, we covered that. I can't remember the name. I think it flew only once and crashed, killing the pilot.


Edit: Cornelius XFG-1 fuel glider, 32 flights were made, but a pilot was killed on the first flight.
