Nimrod 2000. Oh hang on a minute. It's 2011.
Take a 50 year old airframe and cut the wings off. Fly the body from Kinloss down to Bournemouth. (that's the top of the country to the bottom -why they didn't fly them down when they had wings is beyond me). Oh and don't forget about the other wingless one that was moved from Waddington to Warton (that's one side of the country to the other...............) Then decide to move the fuselage, again by Antonov, halfway back up the country to Warton. ![]() Realise that the original Nimrod was hand built and the jigs for the new wings don't really fit. Make the new engins removable via the top of the wing. Then realise that the hangar cranes at Kinloss aren't rated to carry the 'new' load. Here's one they finished. ![]() Then decide to scrap the entire Nimrod fleet. Including the ones being re-engineered at Warton. Bugger. Someone needs to get their coat and leave. Don't forget about the AWACS one they screwed up earlier.

While I am all for economy of scale The Brits seem to be unusually attached to their early 1950 airframe designs and with the Nimrod they have gone through many unlovely permeations. The fact the airplane, until recently, as a non-tactical aircraft has a embedded engines in this day and age sort of proves this point. They also love those closely grouped engines too, like the VC10 tanker, a beautiful looking aircraft. I know an elderly gentleman who was chief engineer for Comets and VC-10's and then later many on Boeing's and he said about the British planes if you thought Jaguar e-types were labor intensive....

One of the simplest aircraft that I ever worked on was the BAE-146. It beats the hell out of the new generation machines I'm working on now.

That's it. Kinner also produced airframes.
