SPOT Newbie
First time getting one of these devices. I got the SPOT connect to use with my iPhone. Of course I get it a week before my trip down to New Orleans. So I could use some help from some other users. This is a pic of my shared map. I haven't been able to find any information why it wasn't following my route. The points are right but the route just connects the dots. It was on the car dash with an open view. I must be missing something if anyone can help with this. Isn't it supposed to follow closer to the street routes? Looking forward to finding out more about this device. Perfect for motorcycling. ~Lance

It doesn't work like a GPS' tracking feature. The SPOT Shared page will show you where you were the signal comes in. To see signals that are closer together, you would need to zoom in. They are numbered as they come in.
You can get it to follow roads (see your route) if you download the appropriate file from SPOT and then put it in Google Maps or Earth, if that is what you are looking for. Look into Spotwalla.com for MO BETTA features on your Tracking, etc.

For those who haven't clicked, this is a recall on the DeLorme PN-60w + SPOT Communicator units with ESN numbers between 0-2000000 to 0-2019999 due to several failures of units in temperatures below 40 degrees F (the DeLorme GPS part is unaffected).
If you have an affected unit, contact Spot at (866) 727-7733 for a replacement. Quote:

This is always good to remember. Don't buy a SPOT to record your tracks, because it doesn't sample often enough to be really useful for this (unless perhaps if you're on foot).

Probably asked and answered, but this thread is looonnnggg and I will take a simple one word response if thats all you wanna give.
Does the initial cost of a SPOT also provide the first year's subscription cost? Or do I have to drop an extra hundo ($99) on top of whatever SPOT I pick up? |

SPOT is base price, services are all extra $. From time to time there are discounts for service and tracking, but only seem to apply to new activation?
Hope this helps a bit. |
