The SPOT tracking unit??

Ok whats wrong with my search function here on advrider.com??

When I search for threads regarding the SPOT unit nothing comes up. I cant be the only one on here that want to know more about this unit.

Can anyone direct me to threads where this unit is debated? Or those of you who know about this unit please tell about your experienses with it.

Deal of the year or not.....

Going on a 4 day solo trip next week so thought I'd better look into getting a Spot2. Did a little search and saw how Best Buy had them on sale for like $99 (no waiting for the rebate) and found one online at a local store. Off I go this AM and here's the shelf tag...

Humm...is this a Spot1 I think, nope sez Spot2. Seems too good to be true.

Looks like a good score for me! $37.09 OTD and to boot I had a $25 BB gift card I was wondering what I was going to do with. $12 bucks out of pocket.

This one came with the little accessory kit and a 15% service discount.

If you're in the market ya might want to act fast.

From the box:
Manufacturer's Warranty: 1 Day Parts & Labor.

Misprint? or?

That looks like a misprint on the part of Best Buy (it's on the shelf tag, not the box itself). In the US, at least, SPOT devices are covered under a 1-year warranty, regardless of price.

Yeah...I saw that after I posted the pic. The Spot paperwork says 1 year warranty.

A little over a year ago, I subscribed to the yearly service ($99) with a promo/coupon code that gave me the tracking feature (+$49) for free. I was hoping to find a better deal than that, really didn't think I needed the tracking (although now that I've used it, I very much want it), but that was the best I could do at the time. Several different forums and groups had their own codes. Now a little more than a year later, my service has expired and I'm looking for codes again. Unfortunately, I'm having trouble finding anything of real significance.

I'm not aware of any promo codes for activation at this time. The current promotion is the $50 rebate on the SPOT 2.

I've never heard of anyone being able to get reduced rates for anything related to Spot service in consecutive years. Normally service just gets renewed automatically unless you do something like cancel the credit card they have on file. And then they seem to just bill you for an overdue renewal if your card has expired.

I could be wrong, but these are my unscientific observations of reports here.

And the service on my 3 Spots is always renewed annually, automatically, without any input from me.

Thanks for the tip on the Louisville KY price! I ordered one over the phone and my brother in law who lives there is picking it up tomorrow and will ship it to me!

Is this still the sale price? I just looked on the website and the best I could come up with was $99. How on earth could I get an inmate in KY to pick one of these up for me I wonder?
