I lived in Cape Giradeau Mo for several years. Reports of mountain lions kept coming in, but the DNR basically told people they were seeing things. Eventually someone caught one on camera with a fawn.

IMHO Ohio could use a small population of predators.

Ok, now that the lions, tigers, and bears threat is neutralized it is safe to go ride the gravel roads in the woods.

Anyone got a plan for a Sunday adventure ride?

Later,
M

It's got 'em.

They'll take any game native to the state...even deer when they're small or weak. There's still some reports of black bears moving into south/east Ohio, but they won't make it here...just too populated.

I'm not certain, lots of Black Bears in NJ suburbs.

Oh and Coyotes? I watched a documentary series on them when I was a kid. They couldn't catch anything. Even when they had access to rollerskates, rockets, anvils and other assorted products they were unable to dispatch a simple gamebird.

Pending lawsuit against ACME corporation for defective products and unsubstantiated advertising claims.

That's true, but NJ Suburbs are actually a safe haven if you think about it...hard time hunting them there, they have access to trash and water, and they're under no grave threat raiding.

Southern Ohio? Jethro and his 12 guage will make quick work of black bears...especially if Yogi stumbles onto Jethro's meth operation.

I just wonder who his healthcare provider was.

No matter how serious the injury, he seemed just fine 10 seconds later.

While he had great trauma care, I bet his premiums were outrageous.

Very true about Jethro

I bet if it was a bunch of polar bears the cops would have magically been able to come up with tranquilizer darts.

I'm not sure if they are still around, but when I was in highschool, we used to hunt the woods in what are now the CVNP, and I'm sure we heard some sort of large cat. I'd guess mountain lion. Didn't hear it that often, and didn't go investigate when we did.

Not mnt lions but I have seen Bob Cats in Ohio. The feral cat population is more than likely a factor in the survival of Bobcats and coyotes.

Yup. Told this story here last fall, but I saw a Bobcat up near Killbuck while riding...just sitting on a log looking at me. Awesome animal.

They don't over breed and they're territorial as hell, so they'll probably never be flush like coyotes, but it's cool that there are still some cats out there.

I've actually had three people in my career take a dump IN my car.

The response to that is the same as if a dog poops on the floor. You rub their face in it.
