Yes. I think Bats Nest be as rough as it gets.

I had my first get-off today while exploring a trail along some rail road tracks. As the saying goes, everything was going along just fine until I ran out of talent. I hit a spot along a slope and one of my tires wandered off the trail or the gravel broke loose. The bike toppled downhill and me with on it. Luckily (and I mean that sarcastically), I didn't fall far because my right leg was pinned between the bike and a log.

After extracting myself and taking pictures, I got the bike upright. It was a struggle since I had to start from below horizontal and I'm glad I didn't have a bigger bike. After getting it up, I walked it back up to the trail while feathering the clutch and then rode out.

Nothing is broke, but there's a little swelling on the left side of my shin (still riding in jeans since I can't afford gear). The timing sucks because I have to drive to Quantico, Virginia next Sunday to run a 3K. I'll spend the rest of the day on the couch with a bag of frozen corn, some boo-boo candy (ibuprofen), and some shit my wife uses after Army Combatives, called dit da jow.

Since I was alone, I took my own pics:

Glad that's finally out of the way.

Yeah, rail road gravel can be hard because it is so loose and doesn't pack down. There are better rail road beds to play on than those too. Maybe I'll do another tour de Flatsville in Plain City this fall. Not a long ride really but it's the best we have around here.

Hope your "ouch" heals up fast.

Screwed?

First off, ArmyJoe, hope you heal quick!

I have a damn noobie question. sigh....
Went for a ride today, stopped, not really sure why I looked but glad I did. Screw in my front tire. it's a 3/8" long screw and it was most of the way in. I know there's a tube. am I good? I appear to be holding air. it's kind of big hole....
I'm going to park it overnight and recheck pressure.

thanks for any advice!! one day I hope to actually meet some of you!

Nice ride today with Meef & his merry band of pranksters...chilly at first, but it warmed up and turned into a perfect riding day. Lots of new gravel roads I hadn't been on, which is always nice. Saw an entire field of identical striped cows, a squirrel get ran over by its tail, a dog wearing a knit hat, and the most shocking thing of all...I didn't order pie.

I peeled off after lunch to get some errands done around the house, but it was a good ride! I only snapped a few pics...

So is it impolite to ask what the route was? I am interested in getting my feet wet in ADV riding and that looked like my speed. I took theTenere out for an hour or so mid-afternoon but didn't venture as far north as you all did.

I would be happy to give you the tracks of today's ride, but like a dipshit I shut the track log off before I took off. Doh!

It wasn't a planned route, but a couple people were running GPS units maybe someone can cough 'em up.

We didn't have a set route and I don't think anybody recorded our tracks on gps. It's pretty easy to find good stuff east of Danville though.

z@ch,

I live in Gahanna too, 'bout 24 years now. I've known Solace for many years even if he won't admit it! Maybe by next riding season I will be ready to ride with you folks.

Ride around randomly and explore, that's the only way to find that stuff. I never run my tracking "on" (too easy for the man to subpoena your GPS unit and then your alibi comes crashing down).
