Talking

That DR350 has popped up on Tuscarawas Craigslist a number of times.......wasn't sure if it was legit or a CL killer

Must be legit now....or Jeff was better armed

I've got a Dr350 in the garage that'll fit you.

Of course muddyrabbit ran off with the wheels, so really it sits too low now.

No, at this point it's my realizing this is going to get expensive.
So I drained the tank and cut some SS pipe to size. Then with two jacks laid the bike down and placed the pipe around the bolt on a piece of wood.

The pipe simply dug into the wood so jack the bike back up and placed the pipe on the concrete with the bike on top.

Smacked the living piss out of it for all I could. Nothing.
I've ground the bolt down several times to keep it from mushrooming out but a couple bad swings have dented the frame.

Only two things left people have suggested are drill it out or shatter it with dry ice or liquid nitrogen.
I'm taking a break for a bit before I get pissed and do something stupid.

Eh?

buildit, that is ugly. May not be possible, but on some of my restoration projects with stuck swing arm pivot bolts....force becomes necessary

If you can get a hacksaw blade between the frame and swing arm, you can try cutting off the bolt flush with the swing arm. Then remove the swing arm and have the bolt pressed out of the swing arm.

If you can't get a blade in between the swing arm and frame, try cutting the bolt off flush with the outside of the frame. Then center punch and drill out until it is so thin you can break off what is remaining then remove the swing. arm. Then have the bolt pressed out.

Neither are easy. Both will result in use of words that will get you banned if you post them online But the swing arm will come off.

Weighing my options, right now it looks like "drill baby drill" will be the next step.

Ok, I've been up since 4am this morning. I had a boring 2 hours conf call with Europe this morning. I'm canceling on going to Meefville tonight. Too tired to drive almost 4 hrs. :( I think I'll might check out Perry tomorrow since it's relatively close to Zanesville and then do the ride on Sunday there.

Luke, unsolicited advice- Try calling smilingjohn and have him check the photos to see if he has any ideas before you start drilling. I suspect that is some pretty hard steel. -Mike

Don't make me beg...
I was on the fence, but I'll be at the road enduro with 3-4 others. We northeasterners have to leave at 7AM, so the middle of the state crew shouldn't complain.

Is there by chance a GPS of the route available? I have another person who wants to go, but will not be able to get there until just before noon. If nothing else, if you could tell me, or PM me the lunch location, I can have him meet us there.

Took a swing arm bolt ouy of one of Shawn`s bike that was frozen like that. Used JB Blaster for 3 days before it would break loss but it finally did. Give it at least 3 days of squirting the stuff about 8 times a day. Hit it from both sides (I know it won`t move on the one side but it will send different shock waves through it and when it does break loose you can knock it back and forth) GOOD LUCK !

The PB 50 is scented! It smells like vanilla or coconut or something...your KLR will never forgive you. ;)

That's what I would do. Pb blaster it for days. Unless of course you are in a time crunch.

But drilling bolts, especially huge awkward bolts, has never worked well for me.

Maybe try a air hammer. I have had good luck with them. They dont seem like they are doing much but then the bolt will start to move.

I'll second the drill as a last resort. Things rarely work out as planned. I had a similar encounter last fall with a football sled hinge, even with putting it in a bridgeport and drilling it out, it didn't come out centered. It didn't matter with the sled,it left more room for grease is what I told them, but it would be bad on the swingarm. Soak it and the air hammer or other similar shock for a few days is the better option.
