I wouldn't ride Perry if someone bought my gas and lunch.

I got 2 rides in at Perry on the same day - FIRST & LAST!

I'm sorry - did Perry - once - February but good weather - the parking lot seemed to be some kinda of giant gravel skid-pad. The 4 wheelers managed to pit race every time the moment the ranger left - literally spraying the PU trucks with gravel. I"m sure the only reason I didn't get sprayed was because I was standing there. (probably got it as soon as I left). Donuts upon donuts. And the rest was crap - water, sh*t holes, walls, mine tailings, repeat, ad infinitum. I don't consider off-roading in 1st gear fun. Give me 4-5-6 mph!

So, tell me what you're thinking. BR - - - PMd BigOhio
Isn't Perry closed in February? ;)

Nope I didn't know that the orange bikes had the right to run you over. ;) I just started riding off-road last November.

I've been keeping an eye on those KTM 350 EXE-F's I could see me having one of those in the near future.

Perry tour Saturday May 12th.

Ok, here is the rub.
Meet at Perry parking lot and be ready to depart on bikes by 9:15. Most quad riders are drunks, so they don't mosey in until around 10:30-11.

I'll start out by leading 4-5 miles of "easier" stuff to gauge the level of riders in the group. At that point, if people are needing "even easier" I'll direct them to a "marked" trail, and the rest of us can go on to more technical pursuits.

Officer Johnson will be there checking decals/ registrations without a doubt, so don't come if you don't have either a valid license plate, or an OHV decal on your bike.

Also, don't come to Perry without decent off-road ready-knobby tires. You will have a bad day if you do. I can't stress this enough. Perry is not a place to "wing it" and think that your 50/50 tires might be ok. Full on dirt tires are the ticket. Michelin s-12, Kenda Millville, or similar.

I'll try to not ride at race pace, and not lose anyone.

Mine is sitting in a bike I don't own yet.

Gear you don't mind being permanently stained and smelling like pig shit.

A good lock for your truck and throw everything in the bed/tailgate/trailer in a locked compartment - the trailhead gets pilfered, A LOT.

A mistaken idea that it's a maintained trail network. It may have been, back in 1986, or 1886. Now it's a fucking maze of trails that just go haphazardly all over, so if you get separated and alone try to find a colored trail (red, blue, orange, etc.). If it's not marked, no guarantee whatsoever it leads back to the parking lot. Some of the trails dump out onto the county highway or state route. I run a GPS there, I know the trails well but I still find new stuff every time.

The knowledge that the main trail ruts are deceptively deep and not to be taken lightly. Especially the blue trail on the left side of the forest. The quad holes will eat your bike.

That said, I love riding there...it's like a playground where you can try everything, and experience a ton of different obstacles and conditions in a day. It will make you a better rider, if you don't puss out and stick to the easy shit.

Or it will eat your bike and leave you smelling like my socks after I've ridden Tar Hollow in 100 degree heat while wearing winter cloths.
