Edit, I think you could also ditch the battery; though you may want to ask someone more smarterer than me, cause that could mess up other electrical components. But the 250 will for sure run with no battery.

Is the rear brake adjusted properly? I don't recall the rear drum sucking extremely horribly, I mean, it is what it is, but I recall it working okay.

Have you played with the suspension adjustments? The front suspension is adjustable with a low pressure pump w / schrader fitting and you can actually get the forks to feel okay at around 15-20 PSI. The rear is pretty standard and once I adjusted the preload for my weight (or as close as I could get it since I'm about 220) I thought the whole enchilada was acceptable. Remember I'm no connosieur though, I don't really know what it's supposed to feel like and I pretty much just ride. Much like my intimate relations with women.

Also, stop stalling on hills.

There, I solved your problems.

I have the brake adjusted up tight, I need to open it up and see if it's full of crap. I may look into upgrading to a disc. I'm already looking for DR master cylinder for the front per Alan's advice.

Rear subfender is gone, rear turn signals are the cheap superbike kind, passenger pegs are gone, down to one mirror, bars are lighter and I lost 20 pounds.

Tool wise I just have pliers, one wrench to fit the front and rear wheels, tiny spoons, tiny pump, couple sockets, t handle, tape, zipties..the whole thing can't be 10 pounds. I would like to lower the tool tube, but I can't find a good place.

I'm just going to live with it for now I guess, I was offered a screaming deal on a DL 650, that I may jump on. Mike's asking price is super good for the Uly, but still borderline what I can swing right now without my wife shitting a brick. The right WR will come along eventually...

Oh, Jesus.

Went to a bar to hear some live music. Turned out to be an election rally for a democratic commando running for state house.

Beer's good though. So I've got that going for me.

Bummer
You just can't count on things anymore!

Steve Kimock with Bernie Worrell and Wally Ingram tonight @ the Beachland but I am too tired to go out cuz I was out late last night for Sonny Landreth and Jess Klein.

Heh. I was out late last night myself.

You only live once right? Gotta try new things when the opportunities arise. Like a Paint Party / Rave / Concert type thing.

My thought is "I'm in," if I can keep up on my little DR. If I can't ride the V-Strom down the Stone Quarry without dropping it in the daytime, there's nothing to make me think I'll be able to ride down, (or up it,) it in the dark.

I'll come up early and plan on camping in the morning.

Approximately 90 miles total.

Still working on the best route, but this will have us leaving Danville's Lyon's Den B.P. Station at 11:00 pm on Saturday, June 2 and ending near Mt. Vernon (destination subject to change, possibly back to Danville, possibly Newark, but something within 20 miles of those). End time will be up in the air but I'd think 5 hours would be about right.

Gas may not be available except at the start due to the time of day.

The machine of choice would be a F800GS / KLR650 or anything more off roady. Street oriented dual sports I think will have a rough time and sections may be impassable, so please don't be a dick and make us act like we're excited that you came on your KZ1000 with a Vetter fairing.

Pace will be slowed from the usual sporty clip due to the dark and the risk of imminent death by striking a deer, falling off a cliff, or striking a deer while falling off a cliff (advice: try to land on the deer).

Post up if you be coming.

I'm a definite maybe.
