Congrats on Pelotonia...I was supposed to ride escort but had family stuff that scrapped my plans. Great weather for riding this year, at least.

BMV Form 3803

A street title for a dirt bike in Ohio can be obtained by taking in your off road title (old bikes did not have these, a lot harder to do this if you don't have a title) into the TITLE DEPT of your county. This is not where they issue plates which is the Registrar of Motor Vehicles and is a state agency run by private people who know other people. Ask for BMV Form 3808. AFFIDAVIT CHANGE OF MOTOR VEHICLE TITLE (not change of body or BMV form 6666 (make my MX bike a street bike). It lists on one side what is the necessary equipment to have on your bike to obtain a street bike title. For bikes it is the following:

Brakes; Head Light, Tail Light, License Plate Light; Rearview Mirror; Muffler w/Baffles; Horn; Saddle Type Seat (YEE - HAW!!); Handle Bars (As opposed to the more common dirtbike steering wheel I guess).

The other side is a SWORN affidavit that you have done these modifications to your bike (punishable as perjury if not true) that you sign. You can do the mods later. There is no inspection. As far as I know the ONLY inspection in Ohio is when you are titiling an out of state vehicle. You take your vehicle to a DEALER and they simply confirm that the VIN # on the vehicle matches the out of state title.

You give the signed form back to the clerk and they give you back a NEW title that is for a street legal bike. In Licking County the woman in charge knows what she is doing even if some of the clerks don't.

Once you do this you CANNOT change it back to an off road title. This means you need to keep insurance on it or turn in your plates if you drop insurance (my CRF250X is insured to OH min. for $9 a YEAR! by State Farm).

This form is the same form used to title home made cars such as Dune Buggies.

The strange thing is looking up the BMV forms it doesn't seem to list this form. I only know it is form 3803 from This site in Cuyahoga County Fiscal Officer:

http://fiscalofficer.cuyahogacounty....hngMVTitle.pdf

The form given to me at the Licking County Title Office is the same but has no BMV number just a xerox copy. I would copy the one from Cuyahoga Co. and take it with you to prove the form exists. All of this being said I have heard from friends in different counties that it is a lot easier to get this accomplished in some places rather than others.

Sean
PS I will be doing this very Dog & Pony Act today to register my new (to me) DRZ 250 as a street bike. I will repost if the wheels come off during the process.

Look back about a dozen pages, I just did it in morrow county and posted a link to the form I used. It took me all of 5 minutes to do it there.

Looks to me like the angle of the pipes necessitates mounting them that way, but yeah, they don't look right

OK, guys, what's going on? First post of the day!
Hey you should have stopped in! I've been sort of antisocial this summer, doing solo rides mostly and some day trips with Karen. Swing by next time you are in the area, we enjoy the company.

Ron and I rode Perry today, had a good time....greasy as hell from the rain but fun, missed playing around down there...even funner on a bike that's easy to pick up when shit goes south.

We met up with a nice guy on a 300XC-W who was riding solo and the three of us banged around the woods for a little while. Lots of trees still down on the outlaw trails, but it made for some fun log crossings.

Gonna sit in the shade and drink some beers and count it as a nice day.
Fun time for sure. Once I got the mud washed of the WR, chain oiled, etc... I managed to work my way through a few beers as well. Such a nice day.
