What the hell do guns have to do with sharing trails? Smart people stay out of hunting grounds during that season anyhow. Next thing you know you'll be complaining some guy in a harley jacket and bandanna, hunting with a chrome 12 gauge wasn't ATGATT on the hunt

If you think training a dog to mind gun fire, motorcycles and thunder is hard, try it with a 2000 lb animal that will stomp your ass to death and not feel bad about doing it. My neighbor has a Rottweiler, and Harley's that aren't too loud, the Rot goes crazy every time he starts his bikes and that dog grew up with them.

It might be possible you could train a horse to tolerate a motorcycle (I defer to GCMK) but then as soon as you do, some asshole will go roosting by on the edge of control with no muffler and scare the crap out of both the horse and rider with total disregard for eithers safety. On both sides of the fence, there will always be one in every crowd that ruins it for the rest.

true enough...but I think my original point (that there is enough room out there for both horse trails AND moto trails) still stands

Then there's no need to teach a horse tolerate [or ride] a motorcycle is there?

I think what Sion is saying is being misunderstood, that maybe such a big area could be separated and have both hay burner designated trails and trails for motorized vehicles.

Was that so hard? Damn, it's like playin' cards with my brother's kids.....

Well, if it matters I got it.

Fwiw, there are shared use trails out west, where horses bicycles, hikers and motorcycles all have access.

They seem to manage, but this is Ohio and we seem sometimes to believe that we're a world unto ourselves.

I was going to mention that but didn't want to add any more fuel to the fire. ;) I have some video (who would have guessed that?) of when I was in Colorado passing some horses on the trails. They just got off the trail and let me pass with no problems. Goony will be glad to know that I saw some mountain bikers too. ;)

Getting a MC trail in Ohio is nearly impossible just in spoil land let alone near any other organized trail system. If you read/heard the comments at Burr Oak, you'd understand why. People want what they want, not what anyone else wants as mentioned above and most of all they want absolutely no MC or ATV activities anywhere near where t hey will be. They've been fighting for years to get a mtb trail in the Cuyahoga Valley National Park where mtb's were kicked out from progress of other trial systems.

I have a feeling that most of the people that went to that meeting, even if they got what they wanted, probably would never go there anyhow unless it was a last resort like the person who marked down they wanted all the rooms and kitchens updated in the lodge.

Of horses and bikes

Horses can be broke to get used to just about anything (we used them as war machines forever)

Mine are all broke to anything I can think of. You can ride a motorcycle or loud dirt bike right up to mine. I can shoot off 2 of the 3 I have. (the 3rd is a lost cause, she's a goofy broad) It just takes a little time and understanding to get 'em broke.

But here's the deal. Most horse people that trail ride horses don't know a heck of a lot about training horses, or even horses in general. They think if it doesn't buck them off, it's broke. So you've got not very broke horses, that are usually not from the best genetic pool, being ridden by a bunch of novice riders. (that are usually not from the best genetic pool)

They generally annoy me.
