Agreed. I've seen lots of pictures of dumbasses on the dragon, but this guy wouldn't qualify... from these shots alone at least.

Anyway, interesting shots... # 7 he's not leaning hardly at all. # 8 and 9 he's at full lean dragging hard parts. Then # 10 he's already given up on making the corner and is straightening up. It's impossible to tell, but from his placement relative to the center line in #8 and #9, it looks like he wasn't going to blow that corner too bad if he kept in it. No visible skid marks from anyone either. That fat cruiser tire should have left a mammoth mark as he bailed on the corner and headed across the double yellow.

Who knows.

Looked like he chickened out on the corner. Really feel bad as it looks just like the guy we met in McArthur last spring from Alaska who was a hell of a nice guy and a major rider. Hope the rider is okay.

I remember that guy in McArthur last year. He worked summers at the diamond mines in Alaska/Yukon Territory and rode a Harley all over the US the rest of the year. I'm certain it's not the same guy, though, IIRC he was much older than the Dragon crash guy. -Mike

I couldn't be certain but your comment makes me feel better.

He was helmeted and other than the pants, well geared. He obviously rode there from somewhere, given the luggage, so he's not a total poser.

He blew a corner after dragging hard parts.

You ever blow a corner? I have.

There but for the grace of God go I, you, everyone on this forum.

Bad karma to mock him.

Interesting series of shots though, and a shame about the Vette.

perhaps the "getting his just rewards" is a bit harsh, but IMO he's still a dumbass, or at least, he had a dumbass moment. He blew the corner because he was too busy waving at the camera to pay attention to his riding. Had he ignored the camera, I'm betting this crash never occurs. I've ridden the length of the Dragon 3 times, and all 3 times there were photographers out there taking pictures. I never saw a one of them, because I was too busy watching the road.

I've only once missed a corner while street riding and it was my own fault and I consider it a dumbass moment on my part.

I'm going with dumbass - sucks that the lesson came so hard, but he made the decision to stare at and wave at the camera when he should have been setting up the next turn. Did he start fixating on the Vette because he dragged parts or did he just do it? I don't know, but around fame 11 he wasn't dragging anything and around frame 12 he completely gave up on making the turn. I won't go so far as saying he deserved to crash, but he didn't do much to avoid it either. I'll bet he never though he would get this much attention when he started waving.

Luke, take a look at your posts from june 2011 in this thread. I'm sure you posted a pic of the Alaska guy and me at the restaurant if you want to verify for sure. -Mike

Have to agree with Meef on this one. Doesn't appear he was going too fast or riding recklessly. Did the guy mess up by hamming it up for the camera? Sure. Does that warrant "dumbass" status? Hardly. Easy to cast stones/mock someone else's actions, but I can say with absolute certainty everyone here has blown a few corners over the course of their years of riding - most were just fortunate enough that it wasn't a hard lesson to learn as it was in this case.

By the same token, this is also exactly why I'll never support such photographers by buying their product. All they do is serve as a roadside distraction to riders/drivers, and they deliberately setup in technical sections of the road and ultimately their presence winds up being the cause of many accidents such as this.

You completely missed a car, sign, often tent, and at least one (but often more) guy, all but feet from the edge of the road... because you were too busy watching the road? I've always been under the impression that we, as motorcyclists, have to be extremely aware of our surroundings. Otherwise, you know... a deer might jump in front of us or something!

(Too soon? Sorry, supposed to be a funny.)

Snicker

Hard saying what happened there, it would seem like he blew the corner because he was mugging for the photog, and when he realized things were going south he panics and just straight eats shit . Shit happens, I almost had a nasty highside 2 weeks ago because I wasn't paying enough attention.

They probably are, but the other way.

This one? That insinuates you sometimes do not agree with me and this is inconceivable to me.

That's probably equally bad karma but since we know him, and he's ok, I s'pose it's cool and the gang.

Shot IP an email since they close at 8 on the phone. Told em a few folks from advrider.com were asking about sales benefiting Jon and we'd like to support him. I'll see what they reply tomorrow. IIRC they're in the vendors thread so something could be there already about this.
