I kinda felt bad to leave them without a replacement but I've been warning them since I rode to Alaska this past summer. Told them I wanted to by the end of the year but again, I don't think they believed me. Signed the papers yesterday after many anguished hours of debate. I put in 30.5 years, was going to 32 but if I left before the 31st, I'd be guaranteed a slightly more stable future.

We're going to a family dinner this evening and my family has yet to be told so don't go posting anything on FB. I doubt they'd feel all warm and fuzzy if one of you curmudgeons found out 1st.

Now I just need a part time job to pay for my bad habits

Get back in and start making stark county unimproved roads?

What are your chances of becoming a "consultant" with the same position?

Chances are slim to none on both accounts

I understand that this will be the new requirement to qualify for Social Security and Medicare!

Retirement

Mike, you are going to love it. Been retired 10 yrs. now and love every minute. I was 54 and they bought me out. Don't worry about not having enough to keep you busy, you'll wonder how to get enough time to do all you want to do.

And just think, won't need gas money to drive to work, and riding all the time is WAY less expensive, well it sounds good don't it.

Congrats, make what you want out of it.

Dave

You might be able to kill 2 birds with one stone with this idea Mike. You get to travel, they pay for a guide and experience/expertise. All you would have to do is provide guidance, book stuff in advance, and maybe some wrenching if they broke down. All stuff you do normally on a trip.

1st thing I'd need to do is plan a trip other than saying I'm going then roll down the drive. TGorman had a panic attack on her 1st trip with me. We were eating dinner down in WVa and she asked where we were staying? I told her I'd call around after dinner, her face went blank, "you didn't make any reservations"? Hell, i didn't even know where we were going to eat let alone what town we were going to end up in.

I called around, found a reasonable place. We walked to the bike, plugged in the address to the GPS and it said go 350 or so feet behind me? I turned aroun, the motel was behind the restaurant.

GCMK and I talked about this over the summer, I have a few ideas bouncing around in the caverns of my skull that have to do with riding and now that my whole family knows, I've been getting all kinds of "advice" this evening
