I've used exactly the same analogy. Pretty damned amazing.

Hey Dan! you ready to turn that '12 model FJR in on a '13 model? 13's look pretty sweet. If I were buying a new ST right now I'd be switching from Honda to Yamaha. ;) I know you pretty much hated the Honda's riding position. How does the FJR compare? I just bought those Horizon Helibars for my ST but haven't put them on yet...

Oh, I do like the '13. Having cruise control would be nice and I really like the style updates: subtle but effectively modernizing the look.
Having said that, I'm very happy with my '12.
Actually, I didn't hate the Honda's riding position. I was pretty comfy with it. The FJR is definitely a tad more leaned-forward. After a long day, I can feel little twinges in my wrists from the weight on them. But it never gets really uncomfortable, per se. I like the FJR a little better than the ST; lighter, more nimble, engines about equal, MUCH better engine heat control on the Yam. I liked the ST's windscreen and fuel mileage better but the differences are minor.
Of all the bikes I've owned, I have to say the FJR is the best.

After all the dusty riding at the road enduro on Sunday I figured I would clean the air filter on my 690. This is what greeted me when I pulled the air box cover off:

Level full with shelled corn. Frickin' mouse must have made 100 trips in and out of there! Luckily none made it past the filter.

I figured you found a new way to haul your grain to market.

Reminds me of my dad getting the motorhome ready for a trip ages ago. Opened the air box to find it chuck full of dog food.
When we finally left a couple miles down the road my dad is about ready to turn around because the engine has no power. Then kaboom a chipmunk's nest is blown out of the muffler and suddenly it runs great.

Crazy - be glad the mouse didn't do what they did to my bikes and just feast on the wiring.

I've killed about 20 this year in water buckets and I have a fake "mouse house" now on the outskirts of the property where I plant poison cubes weekly.

So far no more damage but they're still about.

I'm off to Tennessee in the morning...taking a laptop to I'll be able to check in once I'm comfortably ensconced in my cabin at Hunt's Lodge in Tellico.

yinz try not to get in too much trouble while I'm gone.

and just for the envy factor...on saturday or sunday (weather depending) I'm gonna be riding this loop:

http://goo.gl/maps/Y3iHa

The Cherohala Skyway, Wayah Rd, The Hellbender (NC28) and of course, the Dragon, plus a couple of other fun roads. Known locally as the Ultimate Twisties Loop. 215 miles of looking at your own taillight
