Yeah, I'm out of town until October, but I appreciate the offer.

It sounds like the local Kawasaki dealer has MSR bars for about $30. I'm heading over there now to check them out.

ETA: Got 'em. $28.72 with military discount.

On paper it should be a similar ride compared to the KTM, but for some reason it feels tremendously lighter even though they're supposedly within a few pounds of each other. Suspension is way way way soft, the front brake is surprisingly good. I've had bikes with disk brakes that stopped much worse than this does. It's a much less intense bike than the KTM, it's happy just plodding along in 5th gear through town, where the ktm gets grumpy if you're not pouring the coals to it.
Ride a well sorted 650 once. Roll on wheelies into 3rd. She'll wind up fast, but not buzz like a smaller cc bike. The big thumpers are like diesel engines, loads of power, but pretty happy being run low in the r's. And they're pretty reliable too due to the low rev limit.

I have some pristine WR250R OEM bars that were removed to install Protapers that you can have Joe but I'd recommend getting fat bars with HWD handguards. That's what I have and have crashed several times without bending them. Just about all OEM bars are crap.

I have some pristine KLR (if there is such a thing) OEM bars too that someone could have. ;)

I'm heading that way, but I have to get this bike up and running quick, hence the cheap and easy fix. The Army is "risk adverse," so we have vehicle inspections on Wednesday in preparation for the 4-day Independence Day weekend.

I'm off to Harbor Freight to score a crappy socket set and some screwdrivers.

ETA: All better. Before:

After:

For what it's worth, the only component that had the tab was the starter and I cut it off as Mark suggested.

Got out for a 60 mile ride tonight. Its dry and really pretty down this way right now, the riding is awesome. I've been doing better at carrying a camera. It's hot, so tonight's theme was water.

Guess they are serious about the road being closed

Yes I came from over there, yes I had one wet foot. It's a little deeper and more slick than it looks!

I swiped my 30mm risers from the WRR to try on the VStrom, definitely need to order another pair.

new guy on the thread

Hey fellow Ohioans, just wanted to interject a quick hello as I am joining the ranks of ADV riders with my recent purchase of a 990 Adventure. Won't bore you with too much storytelling as I posted an introductory thread in the Orange Crush subforum (http://www.advrider.com/forums/showthread.php?t=898463). Hope to get in on some rides and meet you all sometime soon.

Now you know why I was selling Indy. Invest low, wait for a libtard president to be elected or congress to mutter gun control. Then watch anything black rise faster than gas prices.

Another oddball weekend day off for me...

Danville, Saturday AM, gravel and dirt?

Or, ruppster, you want to drag me around Marietta gravel?
