Last day with Bacon

Bacon and I set off today for a final run in my local area.

First we stopped off at the Victoria Lock at the entrance to the Newry Canal.

The lock is 220 feet long x 50 feet wide but the water was very cold today and uninviting.

Along the water behind Bacon lies the town of Warrenpoint and Carlingford Lough.

Leaving the lock we headed up into the hills where it was very cold and icy.

Bacon with the town of Warrenpoint behind him

The Seatruck freight only ferry heading out through Carlingford Lough at the start of her 9 hour voyage to Heysham on the west coast of England. In the background are the Mourne Mountains immortalised in song by Percy French.

The Ring of Gullion is a range of mountains which are a natural protector of the province of Ulster and are steeped in legend and folklore. An area of outstanding natural beauty it is still largely unknown even within Ireland but is well worth a visit.

Tomorrow Bacon heads south to meet Flash of the Gap who will show him around Dublin and the Wicklow Mountains. Hopefully he will get to see St James's Gate in Dublin, the world home of the black stuff Guinness.

Final report from me tomorrow evening.
