Yes, great pic.

I've just returned from a 800 km tour in 3 days. Had to do some photo work for a motorcycle magazine, and after that we had a little meeting with a few guys from the Dutch Transalp and Varadero club on a hotel ship (google on 'Jelmar'! Its great, the owner rides a Africa Twin) near Lake Ijssel (Ijsselmeer).

Great fun, had to scratch a thick layer of ice from the bike before I could start it this morning... -5 degrees Celsius and the original Heated Grips from Honda are sooooo good...

PS:the Continental Trail Attack is now officially and by far the best tyre I have ever used on a big trail bike in winter conditions!

Hi Terry,

Congrats with the bike. You made a wise decision by installing the SW Motech crash bars. They are at this moment the best you can get.

It seems (for no reason... they are just as expensive) that the whole International Varadero community is installing Givi crash bars - a brand persuded by quality and safety issieus!

We also use SW Motech on our 2000- MK1 Varadero (my wife her bike, 125.000 km on the clock and still running if it was new). She had a serious crash on a gravel road in France last September (heavy gravel... bolder a like...) and although the crashbar was seriously dented, it was not bend...

Second plus: the SW bars are fitted with a sort of 'hinge' which enables it to 'swing' them a side if you need to remove the fairing for maintenance (the 2 radiators are placed side ways - behind the fairing). You (or your mechanic) only has to unlock two bolts.

I would love to protect my baby with some guards but I find Givi and Motech both so "big".

Does anyone know a brand that makes smaller guards?

try this:
http://www.rikycross.it/principale.htm
Click rally accessories and wait for PDF to load. Their hardware is best I saw on the market ever. At least for DR Big and S10.

If you do not plan to take it too offroad you may try crashpads, thou Varadero is a big bike can easily crush them (even sportbikes do), so I'd not go for it.

Or just build this :

@ Eduardo... pls keep in mind... the Dero is more or less 'top-heavy'. If you do want to protect the bike, you need to install some proper guards.

On smaller crash bars the bike simply will top over them resulting in damage to the fairing and/or fueltank...

Unfortunaly there is no 'ideal midway'... Beauty or protection, its a choice between the two of them...
