I use 6000K. Not yellow but not overly green either.

Thanks for thinking of me. Much appreciated. If you wanted to send beer and money I've never got enough of that.

I'm checking in.
Picked up a 2009 model year with 7800 miles for $4.9k from a local dealer. ![]() The only issue was the brake linings needed to be refreshed. But since I'm waiting for the pads, I changed the oil, filter, and coolant. I'll replace the brake fluid when I get the pads. It rides great and is a much different feel from other bikes I've ridden (R1150R and a Honda crotch rocket). EDIT: I cleaned and lubricated the chain. It's not brown anymore and the brown is not rust. I just noticed how bad it looked in the photo. everycredit screwed with this post 05-21-2012 at 01:11 AM Reason: Lube |

The handlebars and risers look similar. Tires would look good on a XC also.

Bars, controls and grips are the same. Actually I looked around at various bars and the standard BMW kit is just about the best ones out there. The Scrambler owner made at least one choice I agree with.

I seriously considered a Scrambler, especially being a Brit but it just didn't do what I need it to do. It wasn't awesome enough. So here's mine as she stands ready for a trip to Phnom Penh for a weekend bike rally which will mostly be Harley Davidson, cheap beer and cheaper women. It's a tough life.
Bash plate back on, side tank missing because the mounting brackets had a crack in them. Next time I have a whole new plan for the mounting. It was a facepalm moment where i really couldn't figure out why I never saw it before. The air thingies that bolt to the hand guards are yellow to match the side panels ![]() More of the same. I don't know if maybe she's too awesome now.... Maybe...

Very nice. My air thingies are white because I wanted something on there different from black. I like the yellow accents.

Gearing update.
After 2 X-Countries and more than 22,000 miles with 15-tooth countershaft sprockets, I went back to the stock 16-tooth to try to get 70 mpg on California "gasoline." (I'm preparing for a long trip with lots of freeway miles.) Sigh. Didn't make much difference in milage. Did put the buzzy range above the flow of freeway traffic, though. But also produced more noticeable "thumps" from the engine at legal speeds. So yesterday, after about 500 miles with 16 teeth, I switched back to 15. Better for off-pavement. 15 is still my recommendation. (The yellow or white things on the handguards are called "spoilers.")

If you've not tried it then a K&N and a Cat-less can added a lot to my power and economy. Also, take the top cover off your airbox and discard it carelessly into next-doors garden. You won't be needing that again. I hear you poor Americans have some carbon thing bolted to the back. That should be discarded into next doors garden too. Of course the best way to improve both power and economy is to paint it black.
"Spoilers..." Right. I painted them yellow because I only had a tiny bit of paint left. Also, i didn't want to paint anything that might get touched frequently or I can't get at to clean. I'm happy with her for now, she looks cool. White accents sounds interesting... post pics. |
