Ride Toward Alaska Summer 08
I looked for some threads on "who's riding to Alaska next summer" and suprisingly, came up with nothing. Anyway, getting TO Alaska is not my point. It's riding "Toward" Alaska that is. Who is interested? As of now, the route and the dates are Up to group think and maybe some research. My individual thinking is, Backroads BC, late June 08. End up in Alaska. Ride home via ferries (or not). Am I riding alone or do ya wanna come along? Got some good ideas for routes?
UPDATE 6/16/2008: June 21st - BBQ! at TL Green and Claude's. Bring your favorite beverage and be prepared to chip in on the Food. They have offered yard camping and a room in their cabin for the night. PM me or TL Green for directions. Departure date: June 22 AM, leaving from Vancouver. I have a month and there are opportunities for people to join up or drop off along the way. Check http://www.softwave.com/bc2ak/index.html for route and dates. A thread is now on the Dualsport BC forum: http://www.dualsportbc.com/forums/vi...63&forum_id=62 . Prince Rupert
I am planning on getting at least as far north as Prince Rupert. I canceled my trip last summer due to fires in the areas I wanted to ride.
Phyllis would like to go and we are going to go on an overnight trip in the spring to see if she is able to ride for that long. If she goes we will be strictly moteling it and all pavement. My guess is that she would vote for a ferry trip on one leg of the trip. I will be trying to get Ric to go along on" Beep Beep" though I think that may be his new nick name and not the bikes

I'm making a blast up to D2D in Dawson city to rejoin the AK contingent.
Leaving Seattle ± 15 June, intending lots of BC routes until the Cassiar. It'll be a haul-ass affair once on the Cassiar, and you'll understand why by Bell II enroute. Want names/numbers in AK? ![]()

I'd like to make it that way again & complete the route we had planned. Our 500+ mile per day destinaton of Denali got side tracked by small get off on one of the short unpaved sections on the Cassiar. We bailed out at the top of 37 & headed east back through Dawson creek & back through Glacier park via western Montana. Spectacular country! Don't think I'll make back up this year
. Have fun!

21 days
I'm planning on taking 21 days (june 14th - July 5) to go up to Prudhoe via the Cassiar and then Denali and the ferry back. 350 to 400 give or take per day.

Early stages.....
I'm putting together a plan for Alaska - July 08. Was planning on soloing most of it but would enjoy company for the "getting there" ride and possibly beyond. I would love to do as much dirt as possible from Boise to Seattle. I'll be camping 6 days out of 7 and saving my budget for "unexpected twists".
![]() I am planning on ferrying out to Vancouver Island and riding a few days there. Went there on my honeymoon and was blown away by the spectacular landscape and steep twisty roads. Chartering a bush plane for salmon fishing is also in the works. ![]() |

Ladybug pointed out this thread http://advrider.com/forums/showthread.php?t=227444 to me this morning which I read, then I read all the associated ride reports... It looks good, but is skipping some of the BC opportunities, which is understandable, since most people are on a schedule. I have flexibility and time for once in my life, so it's now or never! I wanna see BC and I wouldn't mind seeing AK, too. I'll be riding an F650 GS with nobbies and expect to be doing plenty of off pavement riding. Looks like a lot of interest already... cool!

Hi Idarider! I was thinking about going up or coming back through Prince Rupert via ferry. Since I heard about it last year, I've been wanting to ride the back roads (mostly dirt riding) of Vancouver Is on the way. There are certainly paved alternatives to that plan. I hope to camp a lot with some hotel stays intermixed.

Excellent! I'll be working on a route, that will likely coincide in part with the other AK 08 route, and maybe timing as well.

A co-worker of mine road the following route. Not true offroad but he thought it was challenging enough on his vStrom
Get on the 1 to West Vancouver then 1W to 99N 99N to the 97N 97N to the 16W 16W to the 37N (Note - See Gas - Buy Gas, stations are not always open and even when open may not have gas!) 37N to the 1W I have this route printed out in color and pinned to my cork board in my office. I don't know if I'll make it this year but soon I hope!
