Isn't that one of 'the rules'?

Stand back and all the experts come out of the woodwork.

Yep.

My Ural came with the one piece interrupter and I was always too lazy to change it so one year with about 30,000 on the odometer it finally quit on the way to Moab. Here I am in the chair fixing it at the campground in Moab.

Getting a better view of the work.

Cob took his turn helping also.

Sidecar Art

After I showed our friend Perry from Marthaville, Louisiana this photo of Mrs. SwampFox and her rig crossing the bridge spanning Two Mile Creek in Polk County, Arkansas:

He painted the scene in oil on canvas and presented it to her for her birthday - we framed it this weekend:

After years of riding BMW's, Perry has added a Burgman 400 scooter to his fleet, but we haven't talked him into a sidecar - yet.

There was that one trip to Moab, you see I am keeping to the Moab theme, when a helper would have come in handy. Nothing like Springtime in the Rockies.

Fortunately I always travel with my trusty Masdaam rope puller.

It's just hard to make any time on the Rokon.

I guess it depends on who you are riding with though. Nothing personal there Spat.

Hi from India

I stopped this morning at an automobile shop in a busy auto part street in Bangalore, to get some lights for my GS rig ($10 the pair), and here what I parked near by (the R.E. with the white helmet is my daily ride here). It is the first rig I see in Bangalore, 3 wheels here is not the most convenient vehicle to commute with, too much traffic jam. 4.2 millions 2 wheelers registered in Bangalore for 10 million habitants! The owner of the auto part shop lost a leg in an accident and use his Vespa sidecar every day to come to work. He suddenly gave me an huge warm smile when I told him that I was too a rig addict.

My hacks

Must say I love this tread on hacks very much, makes me think I am not the only weardo driving a sidecar . So pleased to add my 2 creatures. Both are actually of Dutch origin. In 2012 I purchased a tatty hack, it was one of the first EML Sidecars ever build, the 6th one to be precise. But when I purchased it, the owner said in the attick I have some parts that I got with the side when I purchased it over 20 years ago. I gave me a fairing and a sirene...was a bit gobsmacked, he said well it used to be a Police side belonged once to our Elite Police Squad "The Royal Dutch Marechaussee", these are the bits that were once on the rig...so that threw my plan to build a travel rig based on a vintage EML side in the water, ended up doing a nut and bolt restoration to originality. Here a pickie of the rig finished in Original Dutch Police livery, photographed under one of the symbols in the city I live , the Brussels Atomium.

So finished this restoration early 2013, loved it but was dissapointed as still got no travel sidecar. Then taught about hacking my good old R100GS but some punters pointed me into a more "modern times horse", the potent R1150GSA...anyway they got my mind set and not being able to weld and forge metal I went to see one of the best Custom Side Builders in the Netherlands, LBS Sidecars. What it became you see here. It named the project Adventure Overland Express and indeed its a bit of Adventure, bit of Overland and bit of Express, guess 25 years too late to make it feature in the Mad Max movie with Mel Gibson. So my 2 hacks are Dutch. So if you think that only good cheese comes from Holland, think twice.

Some details on this built: 2004 R1150GSA, TT large Tank, LBS Custom Earls Fork, Öhlins rear and Front. Boot is the ROX (from Stern GmbH) and the complete chassis build is custom LBS. 17inch wire spoke BMW R1150GSA wheels all around, rear and side tire is the POTENZA 17/55/175 car tire and in the front the Heidenau Scout. Spare wheel will fit rear and side but can go rear in case of mudy or sandy roads as well. An Electrical WARN Winch is also fitted. Will use it this year to tour Romania/Albania and next year will take it for a trip to Nepal , travelling through the Balkans, Turkey, Georgia, Armenia, Iran, Pakistan and India, possibly back the northern routing through Mongolia, Russia, Ukraine, etc...
