My new hack....she handles so sweet w/out any steering mods....can't imagine what she would be like w/ decreased trail.....really worth the time and money to get here together.....not even close to being as nice as the one MZcountryboy has though

these look like so much fun. Did you guys go out and buy one without having driven one, or did someone let you try operating it before you dropped the dimes?
Hell, I've never even taken a ride in one.

I wanted one for 2yrs. Only saw one once at Crawfords in Mich. That did it for me. I was ready to spend a chunk of my 401k to get it No regrets.

Same here. I was in for quite a learning experience. Not only how to drive one, but how to set one up properly. My first rig was supposedly set up by someone who knew what he was doing. It drove quite well, but I went thru a new rear tire in under 2000 miles. Signed onto the Sidecar Talk Yahoo Group and started learning about set up. The sidecar wheel should be toed in toward the front of the bike maybe 3/4". Mine was more like 2 3/4" so tires were scrubbing against each other. Next I signed up for the Virginia Sidecar and Trike class. That was a weekend of fun learning to drive a rig properly and safely on little 250cc Honda Rebels with Velorex hacks. I would highly recommend taking such a class, even before purchasing a rig. DON"T count on your preveous motorcycle experience to mean diddly when it comes to driving a sidecar rig

I went out and got mine with no experience, never even sat on one. Closest I'd been to a hack was about a year prior when they had one on the floor but it had a big "DO NOT SIT ON BIKE" sign on it.

The first time I rode one was the test-ride after they put "mine" together. I took it down the road where they told me there was an industrial area (shops and the like, narrow lanes) and found out the pavement at the end butted into a dirt road with mud puddles

I brought the bike back all splashed with mud, big grin on my face. I handed him the keys, he asked "You like it?", I said "Yeah, matter of fact, let's have those keys back" and motioned SpyderWife to go in and start the paperwork

hey jason

my wife convinced me this past Spring that she wanted an older style hack. So i went out and bought one that had been built ground up by a renowned airhead guy. A '74 R90/6 with a Velorex hack. I wanted to make sure that it was a quality rig. I even confirmed this with the NY airhead marshal (who also drives hacks).

When we got it home, i was the one who had to take it out to get inspected. I practically drove it into the woods trying to make the turn out of my driveway. I have over 100k miles on two wheels, and it was VERY different driving on three wheels, even though i had done lots of reading on the subject.

My wife who had only about 5k miles on two wheels, took to it almost immediately. She had no problems doing turns iand figure 8's in the parking lot. SHe then informed me that she wanted to go to a nearby rally Memorial day weekend. Not only did she go (fully loaded! You know how much room there is in a boat for a woman to fill! ), but she won a prize for the best vintage rig. She then decided that she wanted to drive it to the MOA rally in WI.... over 800 miles each way.

Needless to say, she in now hooked.

Me, i prefer two wheels.
