Be sure to get some of this. My dogs can melt your eyelashes off if they pass gas when laying at my feet. :-)

All of my dogs have essentially been rescue dogs. Not necessarily rescued from a shelter, but maybe from a really bad home situation or such. All have lived long lives and we were blessed with our time with them. I have lost two hack pups to old age, but Dusty and Murphy are indeed wonderful hack buddies. I can relate to watching behaviors before getting a dog. No problem with that, as it always pays to know what you are getting into. Goldens do indeed shed, but there probably isn't many a pup that will love you more in life. That is, unless you owned my two pups, which you don't. :-) My long hair Jack Russlle sheds to no end, but if that is the worst thing I can expect from her, I'll still never have any regrets in getting her. Murph, my Bichon, has to be the one type of dog who will make you smile more than any other breed known to man. He has a million expressions and the most loving and sweet personality in the world. Like say, we have been blessed and I am highly appreciative to have been so.

I love dogs of any and all breeds. A bird is just a bird and a cat is just a cat, but a dog is human..... :-)

My wife and I have agreed to go separate ways and she's getting the dog, Sam our Standard Poodle, and I'm getting the Cat, Fritz.

First time I will be without a Dog in my life in 40 years.

I've had the Ural since July 1, 2011, so I need to do something about that.

The favorite dog that I ever had was Blue, an Australian Cattle Dog,

In the meanwhile I've been training my cat to go in the car, so far he's not impressed

That's far from equitable

Not all Goldens shed as much as others. My last Golden was a blond boy, descended from show dogs, and he shed enough hair every day to knit a sweater. My current Golden is the field variety, with a short, flat, rusty red coat. I can tell how much--or rather how little--he sheds when I empty the vacuum cleaner.

But you're dead on about few other dogs loving you more than a Golden.

We must have one of the light shedding variety of Goldens in Sasha. On the other hand anything she sheds is almost totally lost in the literal fur-storm ('Furricane'-TM) coming off of our 2 Bernese Mountain Dogs - you'd think Berners invented shedding. But they are every bit as lovable as Goldies are, so I really couldn't care less. Anyway, riding with them in the Ural helps blow the loose fur off & is definitely more fun than sweeping it up inside the house (see how easy it is to rationalize this stuff?!).

Cheers,
