The little slivers of Alabama and Mississippi that you travel through on I10 are relatively uneventful, and they resemble Northern Florida so much, they are hardly worth mentioning. As we went into Louisiana it began to get dark. As you guys remember, I mentioned that Kelsey only got a few hours of sleep in the past three days. Well as I was riding, I was noticing that she was just putting her helmet on my back. Then she would slide a little to each side, and catch herself and then go back to putting her helmet on me. This progressively became worse and worse. I found myself having to catch her from falling. I would slap her leg and yell at her to stay awake.
You see, there was no way we could pull over and sleep. Crossing through this part of Louisiana was right through the swamps and the roads were basically a collection of small bridges. There was really no place to pull over, nevermind a place to sleep. It was so hard to concentrate on riding in the dark and having to make sure I catch this girl from falling off at the same time. I was ready to stop. We kept on until I found some civilization, but until then, I had to keep catching her, because she simply could not stay awake anymore. I found an RV park, and we just went in there and made ourselves home on a small corner in the back of it. We set up the tent, and immediately went out-cold. According to google maps, we had traveled 507 Miles that day. We were suddenly awakened to a "HELLO!" coming from outside the tent sometime in the early morning. I stumbled out and a tall, thin man with a cowboy hat and boots stood in front of me. "We're just riding through." I told him "Thats fine, just make sure you pick up after yourself" he replied Kelsey got out and suddenly his voice became softer.... "Y'all are more than welcome to a shower if you want to." "No thank you, we're not dirty yet" Kelsey replied "If you need anything, let me know" He said, as he walked back to his cabin. ![]() Sometimes i'm real photogenic. ![]() We went up US71 towards Shreveport and man is it pretty. I was surprised to see how beautiful Louisiana was, we were both pretty impressed. Passing through a small town we saw a cannon, and of course I demanded that we stop. Here is the result: ![]() ![]() As we rode into texas, we did a little bit of exploring. Suddenly Kelsey yelled "Stop Stop!" I did, but as I came to a stop, she wipped around to get something out from the back rest, Her weight shifted so much that I couldn't hold up the bike, so we all fell off, and the bike went into a retention ditch on the side of the road. The damage? The Nighthawk lost its right mirror, Half the front brake lever, and bent rear brake lever. The rear brake lever was easily bent back with the tools I brought with me. Here she is, slightly apologetic, I still hate her: ![]() I'm not really looking that happy, but damn i'm a good looking son of a gun: ![]() We carried on to Greenville, Tx for a total of 366 miles that day. We found camp at a construction yard in the middle of nowhere. Night three, complete.
