Big time score for you Blakebird!
I have one too, and love it. You are right. Stock gearing is perfecto for tight woods riding, but, way too short for fire trails or open road. I have geared mine to the moon and it is still too short for it's new intended purpose. This early picture was with a 45 rear sprocket and a 14 front I believe. Cheers ![]() Jeff |

I toyed with the idea of sumoing my KDX 250 SR.
Your pics have just reminded me how harsh hindsight can be.. |

Took off the blue painted steel bars and put on ProTaper SE's with new grips and a new clutch perch/lever.

I think this was a great bike...and a great idea! A race bike, which was a step below the higher-priced YZ line-up. I raced against one on my YZ way back and couldn't beat him...and I'm sure it couldn't have possibly been because he was a better rider than me!

What year is it?.. MX125C.. being a "C" should be 1976 ? The first YZ mono was the 1975 "B" model... That looks identical to the 1974 YZ apart from the colour & graphics..

Hey Pete,
You are correct it is a 76 model. This bike has more in common with the YZC than the 74 YZ. The tank is steel and a small amount larger than the alloy YZC tank, same shape though. The motor has a steel bore instead of chrome and the carb is a 30mm compared to the bigger YZ carb. Fenders are the same as the YZC. They all interchange. With the Curnutts on the rear I am right at 8" of rear wheel travel which is more than the YZC. I think this one of the prettiest Yamaha's from the period. It has just great lines. I searched for one of these for 35 years. Scott |

It is a production bike and not a backyard modified. They only made, I think 2018 of them. They are somewhat rare. I was never a Yamaha guy as I preferred Euro bikes. The only one I had ever seen was at Curnutt Shocks when I worked there back in the 70's.

Here's my project bike that I completed 2 years ago. I am now working on a 1969 AT-1M with matching numbers.
