I'm thinking of lower bars maybe European, and probably going to put in a flat seat. Otherwise just clean and polish, after I get her running right. First up clean the carbs, clean the tank & the breaks are gonna need work hope to get that done this weekend

My "new" 1980 GS750E, lower bars, aftermarket shocks, fork work... Had that thing for a lot of years and a lot of miles. Kind of miss it from time to time...

The GSX1100 that it was built from weighed in at 536 lbs dry and from memory I think that Harris reckoned you would shave about 80lbs from the original weight but that would be with the optional Dymag magnesium wheels which unfortunately I couldn't afford in 1984.
At a guess I would reckon about 460lbs ish, I always meant to get it weighed but never did. Did have it dynoed a few times and it consistantly gave 106 hp at the wheel, stock except for 33 mm Mikuni smoothbore carbs, not bad for an old motor.

After having a GS450T and a GS550, I finally bought my dream bike when I was 19.

I had it for a long time and regret getting rid of it. On another note: The owner of the comany I work for used to rent out storage space. When I started work here in '88 there was a 79 or 80 GS850L sitting out in one of the warehouses behind some old milling machines. I asked the shop owner about the bike and he told me a former employee left it there in '82. I was always trying to get him to sell me the bike...year after year. So, in '95, I was commenting to a co-worker about all the junk that was laying around and the owner needed to do something with it. I started bitching about not being to by the GS off him as well. Next day, the owner just gave me the bike. Well, the bike hadn't run in at least 13 years. I pulled the carbs and cleaned them...threw in the battery from my Katana...and vrrooommmm vrroooommmmm the bike was a runner. I never did anything else 'cept new tires and rode the bike for serveral years. What a smooth riding machine.

Maaan. It's been years that I've tried to convince myself to wait on buying another scoot but these GS bikes just keep nagging at me!!!!!
I need to finish my husky 610 frame off resto before I can take on something new... but I don't want to wait!!! Very nice bikes guys! I'm green with envy. I'll be one of the group soon enough. The gs resources forum is really makin' me drool

Yea, something about the old bikes. I guess it's because these were the bikes that were in the mags that at the time I couldn't afford to buy. I found a sweet 1980 GS850G in a garage that I am cleaning up. It has 62 miles on it. I hope to have her on the road in the next few weeks.
