The Hack: All the parts have been accounted for, which is good news. Target date is spring 2012 with a plan to ride the R90/6 solo this season.

Have an idea to increase the chair's interior dimension... Should work well if I can source the right material... I'll take pictures.

I am not positive but think a few have been out in the world, and I've not heard any damage reports, yet. Its possible I may be testing one in a while, if the stars align. I'd love to try and break one

driveshaft

I am curious as well ...That pic looks like the one that Ted Porter sells on his site..I have been putting off calling them because i know i will end up purchasing one .....I know I want one lol ...overpriced driveshaft ...So how long is a driveshaft ? so i can do a cost per inch analysis . I concede that its a dam sexy unit .. but 589 plus tax ship etc ....and then there's new shocks ...there is 1200 bucks in a 4500 bike ....It seems that GS S value dollarwise ..is always the sum of its parts ...

Removed the top end from the R90/6 to have a look see. Hmmmn, guides look pretty "expired" for my taste. A quick call to San Jose BMW and some of their super duper CC Products guides are on the way.

I'll post some pics after my buddy and I have a "Head Refurb Day" some Saturday soon. We've got a few sets of heads that need our attention so we'll knock them all off at once.

Did a set of R65 heads today, which was interesting. Never done R65 heads before and the 7mm guides took me by surprise: All my tooling's suited to the 8mm guides used in every other airhead model. Much McGyvering ensued before victory was soundly declared.

This thread's about to get weird...

1: Saw the PD in the light of day yesterday for the first time in several months. Yikes. It's been parked covered in salt since New Year's Eve '09 and the rust has reached epic proportions. But don't despair - I have a plan...

2: I've been eyeballing this in my garage for several years, now.

It's a 2.91 oilhead final drive. The only part of the oilhead I really liked. Apart from the Corbin saddle. The Corbin saddle was nice, too. Whatever. I've got the swingarm to go with that final drive. You know where this is going, right?

3: WP 5060 Extreme 50mm Forks:

That's pretty complete, wouldn't you say?

Yeah, it's gotta be.

Stay tuned.

Count me in on this one!

2.91 seems kinda high to me... I would’ve looked in the other direction if left to my own devices... school me please.

I know what you're thinking, but I'd rather be able to down shift when I need to than spend hours upon hours and countless thousand miles wishing I could up shift. Know what I mean?

The stock 3.09 gears and 17" wheel work okay with the stock motor for backroad pootering but it's all a little too revvy on the highway for my taste. With the motor in this bike I'd like to be able to have the choice to use the higher gears for higher speed use on expressways and etc.

On bikes with less frontal area, S's, RS's and even street airheads with no fairing, the 2.91 gears have worked well. I'm hoping they'll work on this bike, too. It'll be a bit experimental.

Love the 50's. big beefy forks, and still probably lighter than GS forks.
How will you work the swingarm? WIll you use the 1100 swingarm, and make a new shock mount?

Alex, You KTM doods better hope it slows it down.

Stage, the loose plan is to take the HPN-type chassis cues, like Phreaky Phil did...

Add the WP front end, 1150 swingarm and final drive combo and work toward something along the lines of what this fellow from Europe did...

Still need to find a suitable rear wheel (any 1100 or 1150 spoked wheel would work) and a driveshaft. The driveshaft will need to be altered with an airhead output flange yoke mated to the bulk of an oilhead shaft.

Oilhead shaft:

Airhead output flange yoke:
